Background:
IIRC, the front sight on G.33/40s is integral/milled as part of the barrel. Meaning I need the barrel to come up short on rotation as it contacts the action. That way it can be set back minimally to index properly.
If the barrel rotates past the correct indexing, it would mean a large set back to correct and then the rear sight would not fit properly in the upper handguard.
Swapped the barrel to my other action and it came up about 40* short of indexing! This is good news, as minimal set back needed to get sight alignment correct.
I then pulled out my gauges and the headspace is dead on! Once indexed/aligned with the action and very light reaming will make it good to go.
I guess I have to save it.
Turned barrel out to put it back in the stock until I can get it to my metal 'smith.
With the handguard installed, you would never know the barrel was unscrewed, so I put an "Unsafe to fire" tag on it in case I get hit by a bus.
