Got a new magpul stock for my 10/22 and can't decide if I should let the barrel free float or use the tension wedge that come with the stock. What have you guys had the best luck doing? I started out without the wedge but it seemed like the barrel would contact the stock pretty easy so I put the wedge in and have just enough tension to take the slop out.

ETA. I haven't had a chance to shoot the gun yet.

I would shoot for group both ways and assess.

Got some pretty good groups with the barrel free floated and don't know if I even want to mess with trying to put pressure on the barrel. Maybe next summer when its warmer out I might mess with it.

I shot the smallest groups I have ever shot with a 10/22 with the barrel NOT floated in the magpul stock. It was good ammo, and it was 5 rounds in .175" center to center.....at 50 yards. (I just found my data)....average groups with the same ammo was .55"

I was going to feee float too, and thought the it would be shitty if I didnt...then had those results.

That wasn't all ammo, but that was my best ever group. That can be done all day long at 25, but I was impressed at 50.
