Remember it’s just a passport-style photo, not a passport photo. They really just want a pic from the shoulders up. No requirement for solid background. No requirement for it to in color (though some examiners aren’t aware of that). No requirement for them to even be printed on photo paper. I print them directly onto the form (5320.20 for mine).
As an example on the blank background, this is the one my dealer submitted for an approval I had in the last couple years...complete with a wall of firearms and MAGA hat:

Thanks for the info, I think my photos will be fine then. I guess I was overthinking the photo requirements.

I send in selfies from my phone. They dont care. Just don't go out of your way trying to be silly or assholy.

You can take the photos on the ss kiosks. Mine faces the whole gun store so you would have have hundreds of guns in the background. They arent as picky as the state department.

I have some roll brown paper taped up on the back of a door that I use for customers. Take a pic, print out a page of them.
No issues so far. |
