Here is the before picture and after pictures of my 1965 L1A1. I think I will remove the paint from the barrel since it is a very thin coat.

I appreciate the Maranyl furniture for comfort, but an SLR sure looks sharp dressed in wood. Well done.

Just lovely.  First semi-auto I ever shot was C1A1 back when I was a teen in Army Cadets.  Fullbore as well as with the .22 insert.  Sadly the government sent most of the remaining warstock to the smelter a few years back.

I'm a woodworker and seeing those with wood stock and forearms is awesome. Congrats man.

I think that's the best looking bayonet ever to grace the danger end of a rifle. That SLR looks damn nice.

Have pondered doing something similar to my lithgow...how much of a pain was it to get that muzzle break off and the L1A1 flash hider on?

Similar experience as mine. Shot my first “SLR” L1A1 as we called it, back in the Air Training Corp on RAAF Base Pearce in 1991. A few guys tried to pocket the brass from the shoot and were dressed down when they were found with it during inspection. Push ups, sit-ups and multiple laps of the base while being followed by the pissed-off  ADG’ies in a Rover were had by all the guilty. LMAO!

Us olde-skool Air Training Corps types never got to play with SLR's (aside from the rare chance at annual camp)

Our "full-bore" default guns were old No.4's in .303. with the No.8 for rim-fire

Aside from using ex-Aussie & ex-UK SLR's at the gun club, my first "official" experience of them was in RAF basic training.
Great guns...and look very cool with dead tree fixtures instead of Tupperware.

Sadly long banned here
