Looks like all SCAR Modes are Discontinued, Snag em while you can. https://fnamerica.com/discontinued-products/ |
| Just those selected items on that specific page are discontinued. The rest of the SCAR lineup isn't going anywhere for now. |

FN America was quick to confirm that they had indeed completed production of both the reciprocating and non-reciprocating models of SCAR 16,17 and 20. Additionally, FN has stated there will be limited parts and repair support for the SCAR for a quote “limited time” with no specific time frame given. |

Good! About time. FN really took a S*** when they made that platform. Way overpriced, mediocre accuracy, matching shades of the same color? Ha! ROFLMAO, and the looks only a mother could love, but hey, it's reliable and FN so we can charge a $3K and up for something that in the real world should cost about $900.... Don't get me wrong, I love FN but this product appears to be the love child of a Keltec and Hi-Point one night stand. |

Thank you Iraq, for giving me this emptiness inside.

Has this been confirmed beyond whatever doofus does the social media. Why keep saying “legacy” in some cutesy bullshit lawyer/influencer way instead of just being open with what’s going on? This has to be one of the stupidest product announcements ever. Never mind discontinuing their best selling and known weapon system. WTF else does fn even have? A bunch of lame polymer pistols no one buys and machine guns that we can’t buy? Overpriced GWOT clone rifles? |

Wondering what to do with mine. I don't have any spare parts. I would at least want an extra bolt and a few recoil springs. I'll never shoot it enough to wear out the barrel so I'm not worried about that. SCARs are durable as hell so I am inclined to keep it but if something does break it becomes a $3,000 paperweight. |

Overpriced GWOT clone rifles? They've discontinued nearly everything they marketed less than 10 years ago. I don't know why any civilian would buy from them going forward. But, they aren't after the civilian sales. So whatever i guess. I'm very sad about this. I really like my scar. I can't imagine spending the money to get some spare parts right now though. |

Overpriced GWOT clone rifles? Saw a post by FN that cleared it up a bit. FN USA will not be making SCARs any longer but FN Herstal will. That’s why the 15p isn't listed as discontinued, they only come from Belgium. I can only speculate that they are behind vague because they don’t have a clearly defined run out and want to capitalize on the hype. Also I wouldn’t be surprised to see Belgian made 16S and 17S pistols hit the market. With braces seemingly here to stay and the $200 tax for SBRs soon to be a thing of the past they seem a lot more palatable than they once did. |

ETA: I have a SBR 16 that I love, and only a spare recoil spring, but I'm in the same boat with a few discontinued firearms (ACR, ARX, etc). I was wondering that too. They were designed 2004-2007 and deployed in 2009. That’d fit patents getting filed roughly 20 years ago and about to run out, kinda like the original HK416, giving us the BRN-4. Once machine ships aren’t afraid of big daddy FN pushing their poo in, an extruded aluminum upper and respinning the polymer lower to be aluminum could probably make them produced in shops that make AR lowers/uppers and handguards. Obviously all the tiny parts, barrels, gas blocks, bolt carrier group would be needed, though where there’s a dollar, there’s a way. Replacement stocks as well, but the Ugg boot always kinda sucked, so putting a 1913 adapter there would open it up. PSA has their Jakl so I doubt they’d touch it. Maybe Brownells would be interested in a BRN-16/17 line? A lot of the parts aren’t in common with or derived from the AR though, which the BRN-4 benefits greatly from. FN definitely had magic gnomes forging their barrels but i don’t think the fundamental design is a 3-4K rifle. Like the Bren 805 was the Czech SCAR 16 we had at home (with a more complex machined upper), and it was roughly half the price. |

What military contracts are they winning right now with the SCAR? They lost several bids the past 10 years. Everyone in NATO is going for a HK 416, CZ Bren, LMT or a DI variant of the AR-15 platform. |

I went on gun.deals and SCARS are going out of stock fast. There aren't many left. That said on the FNSCAR subreddit someone posted on there that MAC (I am not a fan but the dude for sure has sources) is hinting he knows something with some replies to comments. Basically that the SCAR as a platform isn't dead. He told everyone read the notice carefully and how they use the word legacy in it and they wouldn't use that term if there was a replacement, and points out the part about looking forward to Shot Show 2026. My personal assumption is FN USA is going to finally release the MRGG and call it the SCAR 2 or something. |

The following countries still issue it as a standard service rifle:
Tons of countries still use it in their special op groups but it seems to be getting phased out of those roles slowly. Hopefully they can get some parts imported from Belgium. If not hopefully some of the smaller stuff is compatible between the SCAR and the MRGG/whatever FN is going to release soon. |

Seems like FN makes them in batches like the do most things and they go in and out of stock. |

I got lucky - just bought a slightly used SCAR 17 with 9 mags (most new in box), a bunch of expensive upgrades, and two barrels (13 with a welded BE Myers flash hider & 16). It is a Belgium made RCH one. I already had the US NRCH model. Made the deal with a friend right before the announcement came out. Even came with 60 rounds of ammo and a couple mag pouches. |

Yeah I picked up a recoil spring, firing pin, and a few small parts a few years ago. I was hoping to get a bolt and barrel but I could never pull the trigger on the cost. I hope I don't regret that but it's one of the last guns I'm worried about as far as stuff breaking. I did shoot it a lot when 308 prices were almost the same as 556 during the pandemic but now I may bring 5-6 mags with me to the range and don't abuse it. It should last my lifetime and I'll probably get the new SCAR if it's an actual SCAR and not a different platform that replaces it. Iconic gun ETA I'm actually feeling the same about Russian ammo. I invested in so many AKs when 762 was the cheapest to shoot just a couple years ago. I don't see myself ever stockpiling that round again. |

I think besides SR25 mags and a long mlock rail they will have the same operating system with some changes to it. That photo above is different than the mrgg pictures I've seen but my phone isn't that great and maybe I'm not seeing it all the way. |

I had a 16 and a 17, 10 years ago. They were good for their time. In today's world they just require too much makeup to take out in public. Extended handguards, stock replacement, etc. You're gonna be into it for $4.5k before you even put glass on one. If they had a 13" pistol variant with MLOK and a 11" handguard that actually fit through VTAC barrier holes, I'd be a buyer again. But as mentioned above - we have a LOT more piston options than we did 20 years ago and I think we're gonna see a lot more cool stuff hit the market in between major buying triggers like Sandy Hook and election fear mongering. |
|
Don't worry ... they will still make the PS90 ... a completely outdated and hardly adopted platform for you that is over 35 years old with little to no improvements ... but lets dump the SCAR that has wide adoption and aftermarket finally on some solid ground ... good move ... Honestely they should have dumped the PS90 along with the SCAR ... that said ... the NRCH was the right move ... they could have easily made an extended upper (ala SCAR 20) and still have a very good rifle. Whether you like it or not ... Sig/LMT is wiping FNs business clean with the MCX/MRP/MWS platforms across the globe ... the contracts that those two companies are getting are the contracts FN used to get ... |
