Quoted: The paper ones are pretty cheap, 2 cards for $15. Compared to the price on a suppressor I can't image them being worried about missing out on a couple $15 sales. How many Form 1s do you think their typical customer does? Don't buy the cards. The ATF will send you as many as you want for free. |

Quoted: I just completed a form 1 and uploaded the EFT file. The cover sheet is still saying to send in physical finger print cards. Someone mentioned this same thing earlier, but can anyone verify that you can in fact ignore and dont have to mail in the cards? |

Quoted: Correct. I didn't send anything in, was approved in 16 days. Make sure you uploaded the eft file to the RP portion of the form. Got it, thanks Eta: if I go back to view the submitted form 1, the eft file I sent is populated in the responsible person section along with photo and signed paperwork... however, if I go to the last section that shows all the associated documents (ie. Trust doc, photos, cover letter) the eft file is not listed among those files. Im assuming that's normal as well? |

Good information in this thread. Just wanted to share my experience. Went to printscans website, found a UPS near me that had there service, clicked make an appointment, chose ATF as the reason, it clearly stated this was to generate an EFT file for online use, paid the $65, showed up with my two forms of ID it tells you that you need, fingerprints done within 10 minutes, walked out to my car and checked my email, already had the download link for my EFT file. Super easy. I have yet to submit any eforms with the file however wanted to get this done now for future use. Just to confirm, you upload this file under yourself in the RP section correct? Then you ignore the normal email you get about sending fingerprints and your form should be processed? |

Is the variation on form 1 approval times mostly dependent on which person is reviewing the file? Mine was submitted in November and still no approval yet, hopefully it gets approved super fast like some others in here! I'm very eager to assemble my ridiculous rifle/shotgun. |

Quoted: Went to my "appointment" today... basically I did everything myself. I'm used to being told "just go limp, I'll do everything" so doin-it-myself was an experience. Check email about 30 mins later and downloaded the file. Hopefully it works. I basically had the same experience. It took dozens of tries to get my prints right. |

I basically had the same experience. It took dozens of tries to get my prints right. The guy at the UPS store tried helping on some of mine but it still took a lot of tries on some prints. I took about 20 minutes on the machine with some handwashing to wet them at one point. Dry winter skin wasn't helping matters. The guy at the UPS store said he's seen some people take over 45 minutes to get them all captured and he has to stand and watch the entire process by rule even if he doesn't help. I kind of felt bad for him. While he was helping me their normal services line grew and grew with just one other person working the store while he was tied up. He said having this machine was counterproductive for them. I guess it was some corporate push with some incentive of preference in other areas if they took it. But they only get $7 per person and between the lack of use and then them taking forever for some people to process he didn't seem to think it was worth having from an employee standpoint. |

The The machine eventually said they were good, and the ETF file was accepted by ATF on an eForm 1. I guess we'll see.. they looked OK but what the heck do I know? |

Quoted: @Joshua_CapitolArmory Are you all able and willing to make the electronic fingerprint file available to those of us who already completed a form 4 with you? @Joshua_CapitolArmory I called the shop last week and got the answer that sometime next year you all will begin making these available as a service but the answer was really vauge on cost and if existing electronic form 4 submission folks would have to resubmit prints. Can you all clarify that in more detail here and maybe give a better timeline? |

I believe the forms are randomly assigned now to “balance” the work load. Doing it as an individual vs a trust vs a corp and the complexity of the legal docs/number of responsible persons can add to the time. My second form 1 just came back today at 20 days from submission. Obviously a different examiner taking a bit longer. I think with mailing prints for multiple applications ends up grouping the forms together and the forms get approved as a group. |

Quoted: No. That's not what an EFT file is. There are PC applications which can do it, and render an EFT file for you, but they're expensive. Yes, it is inside the EFT file (RES, field 2.041). All the plain text is at the top. You can open the file in Notepad or whatever basic text editor and change it. Do not change any of the spacing; just replace the values you want changed. The Type of Transaction (TOT, field 1.004) must be "FAUF". The File extension must be "EFT" only. 12MB max (but it'll be smaller). If you have an EFT file (which is also called a NIST file) and you want to extract your fingerprint images out of it (like to print from your laser printer onto physical FD-258 cards) you can utilize one of these 2 free programs to do that: https://www.nist.gov/itl/iad/image-group/products-and-services/image-group-open-source-server-nigos#Releases http://www.cognaxon.com/index.php?page=nistviewer @KitBuilder Without really understanding exactly how the file would be sent from Printscan folks via the UPS store and having to enter my data via the website, I wasn't keen on including my social security number. Do you happen to know how I could go back and add it to the EFT file? |

Quoted: Per the EBTS 8.1 specs, it should be field 2.016 "SOC". Open your file and find that field. Enter it as 9 digits. No dashes. Thanks. It's not in the original header text area, I'm guessing that's because the field is blank. The "viewer" software from cognaxon will actually let me edit the field and add it, but it appears to modify something else in the file. I say that because I saved a copy unedited, made the change that I could see in the header that cognaxon made in the file it saved and then tried to open that file and it gave me a few errors and lost all of the prints. cognaxon has no problem opening EFT files but it wants to save everything as a NIST file, which I can change back to an EFT file after saving, but I'm not sure what the other changes are doing to the rest of the file and it's ability to be accepted by the FBI. By the way... on the Software from NIST, NIGOS, could they make the install just a little more complex... NBIS Open Source Software Installation Guide (For Windows) ---------------------------------------------- Step 1: Install CMake and the MinGW/MSYS build environment. ** NOTE ** NBIS may not build successfully if your MinGW/MSYS is not installed following the procedure described below in the "Installation Guide for the MinGW/MSYS build environment" (at the end of this document). Automated installers (as well as full source code) for Windows versions of CMake are available at http://www.cmake.org/download/. ** NOTE ** You must add the cmake executable's location to your PATH variable (the installer can do this or it can be done manually post-installation). Step 2: Run the following command to setup your build environment for MSYS/MinGW on WIN32 (or WIN64): ./setup.sh --MSYS [--STDLIBS] [--32 | --64] must be replaced by the specific directory path where you want to install the NBIS applications, libraries, pre-computed runtime data and manuals. The must be an absolute path. For both architectures, run setup.sh using with the format of followed by : (colon). (ex: C:/SRC/NBIS/Main) You must run setup.sh as described above. If you do not, then there is no guarantee that all applications will build and/or run. Options Usage: --STDLIBS Build without OPENJP2 and PNG image format support --32 Build on 32-bit architecture machine. --64 Build on 64-bit architecture machine. Example: > ./setup.sh C:/SRC/NBIS/Main --MSYS --32 Step 3: Run the following commands to build "NBIS": > make config > make it Step 4: Run the following command to install NBIS executables into the directory: > make install Step 5: (OPTIONAL) Run the following command, if you want to generate a list of API supported in NBIS. > make catalog ########################################################################################### Installation Guide For MinGW/MSYS build environment (For Windows 32- and 64-bit) ----------------------------------------------------- ** NOTE ** If you have not already installed CMake, you should do so before installing MinGW/MSYS. (Otherwise, you may have to restart the MSYS shell after installing CMake.) Step 1: Download the following packages for MSYS and MinGW-get: - MSYS: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw-w64/files/External%20binary%20packages%20%28Win64%20hosted%29/MSYS%20%2832-bit%29/MSYS-20111123.zip/download - MinGW-get: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw/files/Installer/mingw-get/mingw-get-0.5-beta-20120426-1/mingw-get-0.5-mingw32-beta-20120426-1-bin.zip/download Step 2: Download the correct MinGW package for your platform (32- or 64-bit): - MinGW (32-bit): http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw-w64/files/Toolchains%20targetting%20Win32/Personal%20Builds/megasoft78/basic/mingw-w64-bin_i686-mingw_4.5.2_20110223_megasoft78.7z/download -- OR -- - MinGW (64-bit): http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw-w64/files/Multilib%20Toolchains%28Targetting%20Win32%20and%20Win64%29/megasoft78/mingw-w64-bin_x86_64-mingw_4.5.2_20110222_multilib_megasoft78.7z/download NOTE: The 64-bit version of MinGW will allow you to build NBIS binaries in both 32- and 64-bit versions, using the flags specified in the build instructions above. Step 3: Extract the MinGW package to a convenient directory (without spaces). Ex: C:\mingw64\ *OR* C:\mingw32\ Step 4: Extract the MSYS package to another, separate, directory (without spaces). Ex: C:\msys\ Step 5: Extract the MinGW-get package to the same directory as the the MinGW directory used in Step 2 above. Ex: C:\mingw64\ *OR* C:\mingw32\ Step 6: Open an MSYS command prompt (run MSYS.bat from the directory where the MSYS package was extracted) and run the post-install configuration script by typing the following command: > /postinstall/pi.sh Answer "yes" to all questions and provide the full path to the directory where the MinGW package was extracted when prompted for the location of MinGW. Step 7: Run the following command to finalize the configuration of MSYS and MinGW: > mingw-get install mingw32-autotools (This step requires that your computer is connected to the internet and may take several minutes depending on the speed of your connection.) Maybe I missed the easy button exe file in the zip file but that's a lot of work to install a viewer if I didn't miss the installer shell. |

Quoted: It's an FD-258 for civil applicants, but that's not exactly a direct link to the .EFT file. Same data though. You may have better luck asking for the ".NIST" file since that's the native file extension for most LiveScan systems. Ours saves all the data as a .NIST file prior to outputting a physical FD-258 to the attached printer. So if I get the .NIST file that's what gets uploaded to eForms? |

Yes Silencer shop will sell you your prints on the official stock ATF accepted stock for $15. Note you only need "quantity 1" as it included two sets of prints. You snail mail both to ATF and one goes to AFT and other to CLEO. really good form 1 guide is here: https://www.80-lower.com/80-lower-blog/efiling-atf-form-1-to-build-an-sbr-intro-registration/ |

I did my EFT prints yesterday. The UPS store was slow which was good. I had some issues getting my prints to capture correctly. Some were fast but one hand took like 15-20 attempts. Start to finish it was probably 20 minutes. I'm assuming the goal is to have green check marks when the system reviews your prints. When I was trying to get my troubled hand done I'd get a variety per finger. Green, yellow, red. It's obvious they red is a no go. I can't remember what the yellow if all about. Maybe yellow is questionable? Either way I redid everything until they were check marked green. I even reprinted one finger that looked weird but it was green. It's great having these on file but it was a strange experience. |
