Buddy picked up a used 25-06 Savage 111.   We loaded up some loads and went to shoot.

The lightest load were way over pressured.  And way high velocity.   Primers flattened and pushed out.

Then we tried some Factory Federal bullets.  Same thing happened.  Primers flattened and extruding from brass.

Looking at the bolt, I noticed the ejector pin wasn't moving.  He was pulling the brass out by hand after each shot.

Went home and tore the bolt apart and found the ejector spring destroyed.  It looked like someone ran it over and flattened it sideways then mashed it back into the hole.

 I believe the ejector was not fully seating when you closed the bolt.  Don't know how much it was sticking as I did not notice this until we disassembled it.


Question:

Would the ejector protruding from the bolt face cause Pressure spikes?

I am thinking this is the problem and probable why he got a good deal on the rifle.

Never say never, but I don't see how the bolt would close on a cartridge if the ejector wasn't moving.

If headspace was excessive, then yes the ejector could be pushing the case forward enough to allow the primer to push out of the case when fired, which then having the case crammed back onto it... Check headspace with stock unfired rounds versus once fired rounds.. Also would be good to visually inspect the barrel and look for a possible carbon ring in the chamber/throat...that to could be jacking pressure, especially on factory ammo..got any pics of the cases/primers/ bolt face?
