Anyone using or familiar with a Dillon RL450?  I picked one up today, and kind of curious how it will compare with the 550 I have at home (I won't be able to actually get it home and set up for a few more days).  Any benefits to the setup using threaded in dies, at least with regards to runout?  Other than the quick change tool heads, what are the major differences?  Are most parts interchangeable between the two?

Good solide press. I have owned a couple. Dillon can upgrade it to 550 specs very cost effectively. The manual primer system works, it just adds another step.
Would make a great dedicated .223 press.

I keep an eye out. I’d like one to set up for 45 only.

Set it up for 1 cartridge and be done with it.  Change over time is too long.

Running my RL-450 since 1979.   First used to load for an M16 till 2011.  Now just 45 acp.

My 223 shell plate gave a different head to datum sizing from  each station.   Check bottle neck cases with a comparitor.

Forgot to mention the powder funnels are different than current ones.

NICE

Have a couple of partly complete 450 units
Plan to restore one at least to original spec. with the manual primer system & manual powder bar as & when parts show up to allow that

Had thought about using one as a dedicated case prep unit
The other may end up as a dedicated 338 LM press

450  is essentially a 550 with fixed tool head (more consistant OAL length compared to 550)...

450 has manual prime feed,, swap it to 550

450 has fixed base measure / manual bar operation... swap it to new style measure

450 uses 550 caliber kits,, disregard the funnel comment

I have 2 bare 450 frame myself, bought a BL-550 (cheaper than the bottom parts from DILLON),, might strip if of ram & links to assemble 1 of the 450 frame,, still undecided
