I posted this elsewhere but figured some of you might find it of interest here.  For years I have owned a 2006 1894SS that I have wanted to convert to a SBR for use with a suppressor.  I recently picked up a second 1894SS in better condition so decided to move forward with the project and to build a Trapper while waiting for the stamp.

Now I know that some of you might say you would never do this to a JM gun but you can save your breath and/or keystrokes. I don’t put guns on a pedestal and as a general rule I don’t buy Remlins either, sorry. My gun, my rules.  Besides most of ya’ll know how my build threads go anyway.

In addition to chopping the barrel to 16", I eliminated the front barrel band for a cleaner look and hopefully better accuracy.  I also added laminated stocks meant for a 336SDT and turned a new follower from stainless steel.  The end result is basically a checkered clone of the rare 1894SS-LTD but at only a fraction of the cost.

Although only 4” shorter, the new configuration is much more compact but still holds 8+1 rounds of .44 magnum ammo. Once I get the chance, I plan to test both guns at the range using a chronograph to see just how much velocity that 4” actually matters. For now here are a few photos of the build and completed gun..

Sweet, if you were in Minnesota I'd pay you to chop my Marlin 336 down to trapper length.

Thanks bro, that means a lot coming from a pro.  BTW the Rossi SBR turned out great and the stamp for the Ruger 357 came back today.  I'll shoot you an email to discuss!

Sorry man but no, I'm only a hobbyist and it is stressful enough to worry about screwing up my own gun, let alone someone else's.

I have used Morgan at Class 3 Machining (member eastTXhunter who posted above) for several SBR projects including moving sights and cutting dovetails so imagine he could do something similar.  If he's too busy then I would contact Ranger Point Precision and see if they are taking on any new work right now.

Nice, thanks for sharing!
I have a remlin version I have been considering having cut and threaded. Wondered how many rounds it would hold.

For the scoped rifle shown, do you have to use a chin weld to get a good sight picture?
