The hardest part to me would be having to drill for the barrel pin on the new barrel. I don't have a mill and would be afraid the bit would just hit the curved barrel surface and walk. Is there another way to mill the pin channel without specific equipment?

The hard part is making them look nice with the welds and such imho.

There are only a few critical and tedious tasks such as getting the flat right, setting bolt gap and setting cocking tube gap(very critical on rifle calibers)

The big name guys make good money because they can weld them really clean, know how to punch a flat out right, and make all the little things look nice. Working with sheet metal can be a pain

You need at minimum a press, a welder(tig much preferred) and a drill press

I just did an advanced search for "tutorial" by "holescreek" and got most of them.  http://www.militaryfirearm.com/Forum/search.php?searchid=39240
You want the ones with "tutorial" in the title.

I used to have a series on another forum but when photobucket screwed us all and killed the photos I focused on the MFA forum because they host the photos there.

The MFA site is free and there are no advertisements.  There is no requirement to post anything, not even an introduction. Just sign up and look at the pics.

Is there a builder out there that can build one of these from a kit at a reasonable price?

Depends on whats"reasonable". last i checked (years ago) cheapest quote i got from reaching out to multiple builders was $800.

I built mine on a PTR receiver and it was definately a fun build.  More involved if you bend the flat yourself plus expenses with the jigs. You need a welder and metal work skill is required.  I have a spare kit in the garage i may build.
