Best course of action here? I'd like to remove the staining, likely blood from deer hunting. Scratch removal would be a bonus but not totally hung up on that.

Anything worthwhile using for someone not savvy with blades?

I had some strange water stains on a S35VN blade.  I was able to use some CLP and towel to remove most of them.  You will probably need to use some polishing compound and wheel for the scratches.

Might try some Flitz and a cotton bore patch.

If Flitz doesn't do the trick, you could try polishing the blade using some of the 600-100-1200-1500-2000 grit abrasive paper available at auto parts stores.  But keep in mind it will take some  practice and a tremendous amount of elbow grease.  Remember to back the paper with something like a popsicle stick or small file and to help keep the flats flat and not round the grind lines.

This may be outside of my skill set.

I could definitely see myself dicking things up, but I'll look into maybe attempting it. Thanks.
