I use 6 gr of Hodgdon Clays (not Universal Clays) and Missouri Bullets 250gr LRN. 800fps from a 5 1/2 inch barrel. No battering or pain. My daughter started shooting it at age12. That load is much cleaner than Unique.

I use 5.4gr of HP-38/Win-231 with a 250gr bullet I cast from a Lee mold then powder coat. I suggest buying some powder coated bullets to try, I'm sure you'll like them. I'm getting out of the plain lead bullets and transitioning to PC, they are leaps and bounds better and no worries about leading my guns.
The SAA style guns, which you have, are really sighted in for use with 250gr bullets, the 200gr may hit low. Mine do. |

I just purchased the exact same hand gun. I have a surgically fused wrist and these loads are real light and accurate but don't shock the wrist/hand

I load 250gr lead bullets at 7.0 of Unique and the felt recoil is somewhat less than the 8.0 or 8.5 loads that I also load. I've read about others loading in the 5-6 range, but I haven't.

I've had good luck with Red Dot. 6 grains under a 250g LRNFP gave me 780 fps out of a 4 5/8" bbl and was VERY accurate.
