I just noticed ( guess I’m behind the times lately) a few Turkish Benelli M4 clones on the market and was curious if anyone has compared them to see which one is the better of the offerings. What are the differences, if any?
Toros Copolla T4 Sulun Arms Tac 12 Canuck Operator Komando P4 CD 601 DPS Thanks AKM |

Based on my research, many of those are likely the Sulun Arms copy with some generational differences. So far we’ve only gotten the Toros and the Charles Daly 601 DPS in the US.
From what I can tell, the CD 601 DPS is in-between the Generation 1 and 2 designs from Sulun, though much closer to the Gen 2. The Gen 2 is 100% M4 clone down to the recoil tube and stock. The Gen 1 is an almost clone, different recoil tube, mostly parts compatible, but the bolt release is positioned too far back on the receiver. The CD guns have the newer receiver design married with the different recoil tube. You can direct swap the recoil tube for a Benelli one and all other Benelli parts fit. I’ve been trying to track down the original Turkish-style adjustable stock for their recoil tube with no luck so far. I did find that Toros is literally around the corner from the Sulun factory though. Turkish companies are a total cluster to sort through but I would be surprised if the Toros guns are an “upmarket” subsidiary for Sulun or a partner that sources parts from Sulun for their own upscale builds. All that said, most of the so-called Turknelli clones get pretty solid reviews around the world. To the surprise of most folks they run cheap birdshot in most cases right out of the box, or possibly after a short break-in period. I’d always wanted a Benelli M4 but never could swallow the full price given I’m not a shotgun guy. So this was an excellent gateway drug to them. |

The Charles Daly 601 DPS is what I have. Got it from kygunco.com for $549 shipped about a month ago. The Benelli M4 cost a little more than I was wanting to spend at the moment. So far, the 601 has digested #7, slugs and 00 buck without fail. I threw a sling on it and it resides inside the fireplace mantle.

I like the bolt finish. Enlarged Toros-style winter trigger guard. Goofy looking mag extension - can't tell if it's one or two piece. Wonder what recoil spring tube is under the stock? They put a video out on it, Clint gushing over it like he does with everything else. But it ran perfectly. More options are definitely welcome, hell, if it has the Benelli recoil tube I might buy another one. |

I saw on GB the other day, a Benelli M3 "clone" made by Tristar, I believe it is the model "Tec 12".
Price seems to be in the 500-700 range, which is less than half of a new Benelli M3, and almost half of what I paid for my used '92 HK marked M3 (paid $1,100 + tax). Definitely not as pretty (in my opinion) as a legit M3, but looks are secondary, and I'd be willing to overlook that for the price (provided it ran as it should). https://www.shootingillustrated.com/articles/2017/12/28/review-tristar-tec-12-shotgun/ |

The gun shot 100% with all 3 types of ammo I tested and just as smooth as my Friend’s Benelli M4. We did a nice compare of the guns and fit finish of the guns were extremely close. I felt the Benelli had a better overall finish on the receiver, barrel , and tube and it seemed ever so slightly a smoother action but not for X2 or X3 the price. We didn’t go as far the compare the stock tube as his has a collapsible and mine a a full stock with pistol grip. We will do that later to see what it would take to swap stocks. I chose the Toros T4 over the other models ( while a little more expensive ) as I read a few reviews where the CD 601 DPS has some feeding/ function issues and I also like the larger trigger guard for use with gloves. Now others here have had great results with their CDs so in no way am I saying anything negative about the CD guns. The Toros is a few hundred dollars more than the other clone offerings and I can’t really say why. I’m sure they are probably made by the same people or on the same block in Turkey. I may have paid extra for no reason but it’s a chance I took. I’m very pleased with the shotgun and how well it has performed in the very short term. So far I’ve replaced the charging handle with a GG&G. I also have a few other parts incoming to get me to the 922r compliant with a full 7rd tube. The pics below are right off the range and I haven’t cleaned it so the smudges on the receiver are not part of the finish. The gun has very nice and even finish. https://i.imgur.com/uIoSgWJ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/vSwcBdr.jpg https://i.imgur.com/G5cluIF.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/bHHNCuC.jpg https://i.imgur.com/80Ufudo.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/HAPG5IN.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/9QwwaZk.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/a5dmHfd.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/l7ocWBY.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/3FwbkCY.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/ISt5iWI.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/TEkv1H8.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/w0jnlUb.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/J0eZwVU.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/taXbqw4.jpg https://i.imgur.com/zVk3qId.jpg https://i.imgur.com/klWwqoK.jpg View Quote Very nice. I love mine. The Dave's Metal Works 7 shot tube matches the finish. I had no problems with the factory 5 shot tube coming out. I wish the importer would bring in the Copolla factory T-4 collapsing stock. It has an adjustable check piece. The Benelli stock isn't worth the money imo. Regards. |

View Quote BATFE is the official word on parts count though, so you might want to ask them if no one has already been answered regarding this particular model. I typically use IC for buckshot, but you'll want to pattern your gun and its chokes with your buckshot and see how it performs with each. |

The biggest problem I have with obscure imported guns is that once they're discontinued (or redesigned), which typically occurs after about 5 years, no replacement parts are available. Sometimes it's challenging to obtain replacement parts even while they're still in production. |

The Charles Daly is a 100% Benelli clone with the exception of the factory recoil spring tube being their own design. A Benelli recoil spring tube will fit if you have the desire to use a Benelli fixed stock, Mesa stock, or the Benelli (unicorn) c-stock.
It’s definitely been loctited on and will need melted off. 3 US parts for fixed stock, 4 for c-stock since the stock and grip are separate units. Kinda piggy backing off the Benelli 922r letters since they are identical. You could send a letter to the ATF if you really wanted but folks don’t really do that for every AK or FAL build, for example. |

I saw a m3 copy this week in the wild. It was branded "Best Arms.". It had a plastic rear sight which stood out to me but looked good otherwise. Do these also have plastic sights? The price was $399 and the shop had birdshot and turkey loads.

Ive been researching these pretty hard the past few days. To me they are mostly the same with a few small exceptions. I think the t4, the panzer and the sulun tac 12 look the most accurate. If i can put my m4 collapsing stock or in this case faux collapsing stock from my limited edition m4 on one vs another, even if i have yo replace a few parts that would be a tie breaker for me

I want one of these to put a Benelli collapsible stock on as well.
May consider SBS too. These are neat! |

Are the Turkish clones offered as a SBS in any country?
I didn't see any SBS config on the Sulun Arms website. This Sk-306 seems to be the daddy. https://sulunarms.com/sk-306-semi-automatic-rifle.html |

Can't speak specifically to the clone but I have a Tristar Viper G2 and it has been through some terrible conditions in South Dakota hunting pheasants and has worked without a hiccup. For my friends looking for a semi shotgun on a budget, it's my first suggestion.
Two other friends have them with zero issues, but have only shot clays with them. |
