I doubt nato vs standard will make a big enough weight difference

I’m taking published specifications with a big lump of salt. The Internet tells me the M4 is 33 inches extended, but go try to measure one.

What is the correct measurement?

Published by the manufacturer is something you'd take with a grain of Salt?

I have a p&w 14.5 with a tiny ass car stock, and 33” gets u about 1/3 of the way into the slots (bcm a2x). No fucking way 33 gets u the whole a2 flash hider, and then add proper m4 stock…. The car stock is shorter even than my sl-k, by a half inch. The m4 stock is longer still. Id say you are probably in 34.5 territory with non-extended fh and m4 stock.

Hell yes. Firearm manufacturer specs are notoriously unreliable.

HK for example is especially bad.

I guess the only place I've experienced that is through Desert Tech, though their info is accurate now.
Never had an issue with meltecs published specs.

I think they use the length w/o flash hider because that's how the ATF does it

Which would be complete nonsense, and would support my point. Like weighing my car without the windows Would love to get an actual weight from someone that has one.

This is as close as I could get.  Brand new Aug, never been fired, no parts have been swapped.  Its the CHF model with the backwards thread pitch.
Add a couple more oz for the longer rail model.

Empty mag is 4.40oz.  Any other math is left as an exercise to the reader.

The mag by itself is 4.40oz.  The rifle is whatever the difference is.

With it being so short, balanced, and firmly tucked in, do you find it easier to make hits offhand

How wide is the stock?

So probably around 7 3/4 pounds.

I'd say that that makes the 7.8 lbs Steyr shows with the long rail to be correct

Yes.

I can hold the AUG aimed at a lightswitch plate in my house at 10yd for ~2 minutes 50 seconds, while with my AR I start to wobble off target at ~1 minute 50 seconds.

This lead me to start this experiment, where I added weight to the stock of my AR (+14oz) to shift the center of gravity more to the rear, which helped place 'holdability' to close to the AUG. I plan on purchasing some tungsten weights for the stock to make this permanent.

I threw my 20" AUG A0 on a postage scale: 8.25oz (I guess wikipedia is lying saying that it's 7.9oz). Of course that's including the built-in optic
