From a bench, 10 shot groups, 100 yards 1/9 16" Fiocchi 2.7", 3" 1/7 14.5" Fiocchi 4.5", 5" From a bench, 10 shot groups, 50 yards 1/9 16" Fiocchi 1.2" 1/9 16 xm855 2.7" Ar15 xm855 1.5" I think EVERYTHING is to blame -10 shot groups harder to shoot than 5 - this 855 was kinds dingy - 1/7 barrel is shit - this aug aint accurate. I was gonna go back with 4 packs of 855 each from a diff lot but feels like a waste of time. |

The AUG is an exceptionally accurate rifle, bullpup or not. If you learn to shoot it for what it is and use good ammo, you’ll have better results. With the above said, it’s a bullpup and will never have a trigger as good as an AR. It benefits greatly from the updated Steyr trigger springs and Ratworx sear. |

Shoot some various match ammo and see what it does. When you say you’re shooting from the bench, are you shooting off sandbags front and rear? How good of a shooter are you? The AUG trigger can be a challenge to get used to and can cause some shooters to pull their groups. |
|
You should try different ammo, all guns have different ammo that they like. There is a bullpup accuracy test stickied here you could check to see where you stand. Ten shot groups do this, instead of everything being lights out accurate with people's five or 3 round groups, it is much much harder to cherry pick 10 round groups and you get actual good test data. Make sure you have both front and rear support when you shoot. Front block and rear shooting bag to reduce factors. |

try something that's not ball ammo also, when I got a 16" FN-made 1:7 barrel, it had a burr at the gas port that led to poor accuracy until it was shot enough to remove the burr The AUG itself is capable of great accuracy https://www.ar15.com/forums/General/-ARCHIVED-THREAD-Steyr-AUG-at-the-Range-Who-says-chrome-lined-barrels-can-t-be-precise-/5-2711347/?page=1 |

Range dynamics 55 grain.... I am shooting from a bench and those shots felt good. Tried same ammo in a 1/7 and got consistent groups between 4-5". Now, the rail deck is .010" over max (the .164-.020 dimension) and none of the sights / optics sit right if they can attach at all, but they are not loose. Gonna thow my t2 on and try 4 diff lots of xm855 this wekend. Im not buying it its own ammo. I HAVE heard of burrs @ gas port. I dont have a bore scope yet. Actually been talking to corvus, they are testing a metal fcg. |

Nice picture of broken stock in the Thread. I wonder how much I can get for my brand new 2025 green stock |

If so, that’s not going to yield any sort of consistency. Put it on front and rear bags, shoot better ammo. |

I have never ever bought nice ammo and I'm never going to. Surplus and nice commercial sprinkled in. The only thing that's changed is i started shooting 10 round groups instead of 10. Slowly. |

Ten round groups are hard if your trying to stay under 1.5moa.Worse if you know your rifle/ammo combo can do between 0.5-0.7moa. Sounds like your rifle doesn't shoot the ammo you those the size you want, which that happens. |

FPNI That’s exactly what I did with mine and to say it’s a night and day difference doesn’t begin to cover it; it’s on par with any Geissele, LaRue or similar aftermarket “match” quality trigger out there and will unquestionably have a positive effect on group sizing…😎 |

I agree, all bullpups having worse triggers than AR's are fudd lore. You can make 1980's bullpup designs better with aftermarket parts or you can buy modern bullpups with better triggers. Perhaps the best AR trigger will be better than the best bullpup trigger but that isn't all AR triggers are better than bullpup triggers. |

If were talking an AUG from the factory and comparing a Milspec AR trigger, then maybe.. If were talking High end AR triggers vs upgraded Bullpup triggers (or default options like Elfman in the K&M M17s)...I find that to be not accurate (Depends entirely on the bullpup).. If were talking Factory Aug vs Nice AR trigger = True (But thats not really a fair comparison) ..Signed bullpup guy with 3 ARs |

Did 4 10-shor groups of xm855 today, all pre-corona. FIFTY yards https://youtu.be/hKPuqoREt10?is=JcZ9ehOSnA-2S67C Not gonna replace fcg parts with metal. You get weird wear and gunsmiths at steyr can attest to that. Willing to get red spring, thats about it. I can try to smooth bearing surfaces while im in there |

I can try to smooth bearing surfaces while im in there Looks like the groups smoothed out to around 3 to 4 moa. Which is what I would expect out of any (x)m855. Not really restricted to poor accuracy in the Aug.. <- Preston Moores 30 Shot group with this ammo in the last vid I remember him using the ammo was...10 moa..He not super consistent on the ammo he uses but..Im also not sending him any so..Take that complaint with a grain of salt. I think it's worth keeping the ammo in perspective here. XM855 has never had a reputation as precision ammunition. I'd generally expect somewhere around 3–4 MOA from it, depending on the rifle and the lot. Looking at your AUG, excluding the first 6 MOA group, the rest of the groups are pretty much in that expected range for XM855. For comparison, I looked at Preston Moore's testing. He shoots 30-shot groups and then breaks them down into three 10-shot averages. In one recent video, he had a 10 MOA group with XM855 In another, he tested the same ammo across eight different barrels, and the averages were: PMC Xtac M855 (8) different chrome lined barrels. BCM: 2.7 MOA Daniel Defense Lightweight: 2.8 MOA FN M4 Profile: 3.7 MOA Geissele Taper Profile: 2.6 MOA Hodge Defense: 2.3 MOA LMT Piston: 2.4 MOA Noveske 14.5": 2.5 MOA Red Right Hand 20" HBAR: 3.1 MOA Krieger Custom: 2.4 MOA Those results include some extremely accurate barrels—including a custom Krieger—and even they were generally in the 2.3–3.7 MOA range with XM855. So based on the available data, I'd be hesitant to conclude the AUG is inaccurate based on XM855 alone. If you really want to evaluate the rifle's precision, I'd repeat the test with quality match ammo like 69- or 77-grain OTM. That will tell you a lot more about what the rifle is actually capable of. |

If i got 3 moa with green tips regularly and 2 with commercial 55 id be happy. I'm gonna work on it I think that I could get better at trigger control with it. I don't want to test it with stuff I'm never going to buy. My AR 15's shoot m855 quite well I considered it good ammo. Thank you for that perspective I didn't realize it can grow so poorly. One thing I can do is shoot some XM 193, see how it groups. It's the only other ammo I stash. How much smaller do you think those groups would be if they were five shots? What does it mean 30 round groups into 10 round averages? |

I linked a few videos showing what M855 typically does. Even with some very high-end barrels, it's just not particularly accurate ammo. It's reliable, reasonably consistent, and relatively inexpensive, but precision isn't really its strong suit. Like I said, if you set aside that first group, the other three average about 3.4 MOA, which is pretty much what I'd expect from M855. I'd call that a good result unless you're really chasing small groups. *If your goal is to evaluate the rifle's actual accuracy, you'll learn a lot more by shooting quality match ammo.* ** If your goal is just to see how it performs with the ammo you actually stock, then I'd say it's performing about as expected.** |

Those are groups w/ball and match ammo that work with my gun. Not all of them that I've tried have results that good. It's also a 43 year old AUG with 1.5x optic |

Bullpup rifles are harder to fire accurately than conventional rifles, biased opinion from a prior master class service rifle competitor. My prior Tavor could do MOA for 5 rounds after replacing the trigger, removing the rubber contacting the barrel and using good ammo, not ball blasting ammo. I have yet to wring out my AUG but have an assortment of handloads and some ball ammo to try. I have put red springs in the gun, adjusted the trigger bar and have dry fired it a shit load. Most shooters can't fire MOA groups consistently, add that to ammo that likely groups 3 MOA and you get patterns instead of groups. |

At least I can get it sexy short with a 14.5, i think ima get the 1/9 tho. How much of a difference did you get from the red Springs? The price is Highway robbery. |

Crummy ammo will never test the accuracy potential of any rifle. That stuff is gonna be a serious limiting factor. You need to eliminate variables. I would say the ammo is a large part of it. But how good are you as well? Your problem list is skipping some common variables…. Yeah the AUG does not have the best trigger setup. It isn’t like an AR where people can buy some capability with a better trigger instead of learning to be a good shooter. Ideally a good shooter with a good trigger and good ammo will tell the story about a particular weapon’s accuracy potential. Shooting XM855 and bitching about accuracy is pretty ridiculous though. |
a loaded gun won’t set you free, so you say…

But its how i shoot everything for groups. I tried resting the grip and that made it worse. She's a pillow queen lol no that looks amazing though. Can you give me a shopping list of what you bought for it I want to duplicate. Why are my groups double with 1/7 tho |

The ar i shot 3" i shot that day has gravel trigger... Ok okaaay. I once shot 5 shot 1.3" at 100. Once. With federal xm855 I hear you but I thought I could at least shoot Green Tips in this thing from rest into 2 inch groups. I didn't realize that was a big ask. The reason I don't want to know what it shoots with Matt ammo is because I will never be using it. It may show the accuracy potential but also maybe it's one of those picky barrels and to me it's only as good as its worst performance. I'd like to think this thing can be combat accurate at 300meters with milsurp. |

I'd like to think this thing can be combat accurate at 300meters with milsurp. To put this in perspective. Combat Accuracy with m193, not m855 is 4.3" 100 yard 10 shot groups. Or 12.9" Groups at 300 yards is acceptable (If the dispersion is less than the width of a man chest, you will strike the target with every shot you fire when looking head on). https://www.krtraining.com/KRTraining/Archive/PracticalRangeSmallArms.pdf M855 is even worse than an M16 with m193. 6 MOA 10 shot groups would be well within expectation for a combat accuracy rifle at 300 yards. Combat accuracy, could easily accept 13 moa group sizes when facing head on to reliably hit a target at 300 yards. |

Many guys blather on about rifles shooting under 2 " @ 100 "all day long" Sometimes it is the best group of the afternoon . Shooter skill will come into play (sometimes) type of rest can open the groups some 10 shot groups I think are more reliable but the ten shot groups will be bigger than the three or five shot groups . With a ten shot group with one or two flyers it is fairly east to pick out the flyer . If you shoot a three shot group it is hard to determing what is the flyer. A better trigger can make quite a difference also. Ball ammo as opposed to match type ammo or proven handloads with match bullets al add to the good or bad result. Lots of different reasons why accuracy results fall by the wayside. Take a good look at the muzzle crown looking for dings or out of round issues. Is the AUG have a barrel nut like the AR system? I generally mount a known good optic and get some decent ammo and try over a decent rest and work from there |

Shoot ten times and you will get 10 sizeable different results, and of course you can come up a plausible reason why 9 out of 10 groups you shot are wrong. To do the same thing with 10 shot groups is time consuming and expensive so those that shoot 10 shot groups usually aren't repeating the test more than once or twice before claiming success. |

Each of those groups in 4 target video is a diff lot. I just shot my AUG (1:9 16" barrel, NATO stock with red springs installed) with some Winchester M855 "green tip" ammo that came in 200 round bulk packs (bought from PSA last week). Headstamps were "LC26". I generally only do 5 shot groups since 10 shot are a test of me, my nerves and patients more than anything. 5 shots at 100 yards from a sandbag rest using an Aimpoint M5 RDS and an Eotech 5X mag using the Win. M855: 1.925" 2.25" 1.825" I then tried it at 200 yards. Again 5 shot group. Win M855 4.850" IMI M855 4.150" PSA 77gr OTM 3.925" This was during a miserably hot day, I didn't want to be there and unhappy about my results. Despite the terrible trigger, heat, etc. I thought the M855 ammo shot great. I consider anything under 3MOA as good for green tip. |

Heavy, inconsistent trigger + inconsistent M855 ammo + 10 shot groups = large(r) groups. I can only fight the AUG trigger for 5 shots and using ammo the gun likes, I can usually shoot consistent 1.5 MOA. I have had good results with ADI (Australian Outback) 55gr Blitzking and 69gr Sierra loads. Also numerous 77gr OTM loads (despite the 1:9) including Black Hills, S&B, Norma, and even PSA have all given me sub MOA 5-shot groups. Hornady 55gr SP (soft point/spire point) shoot really good also. As far as FMJ loads, the old Geco and Norma (German made loads) that came on the 10-round plastic clips usually shoots pretty good, usually sub 2MOA with the rare sub MOA group. |

Sounds like either a warranty claim or best to just sell it and move on. If you are locked in to using one specific type of ammo and it does not shoot that ammo well, not much else you can do to change the variables to get the performance you are hoping for. |
