When you put Ar50 in the title, most people immediately think the Armalite AR-50 and not an upper for the AR lower.
If you want a rifle, it has to be chambered in 50 DTC as 50 BMG rifles have been banned. This also applies to uppers unless you have a registered AW lower. You can buy an M2 as by definition it is legal to own but you have to find an FFL that will transfer it. Dont just buy a 50 BMG upper and slap it on at the range, unless legal you can find yourself in a lot of trouble. Be safe! |

If you have a registered AW lower or registered a lower when the .50 ban went into effect, yes you can put a .50 upper on it. By placing a .50 BMG upper on your lower you are building a .50 BMG rifle in the eyes of CA DOJ. They consider this illegal and will turn your life upside down.
You can buy an upper in .50 DTC and put it on any lower as it's not a .50 BMG even though everything is the same except for the case dimensions. Dont rely on something that you heard in a gun store. I will add this only as information, yes you can buy a .50BMG upper and keep it separate from a lower. When you travel outside of the state of CA, you can attach it and use it. When you return to CA, be sure to remove it before you cross the state line. |

What part of CA are you in?
Myself and MrBen are in SoCal, when it comes to lowers and .50 uppers Ben can help you out. You'll want a high mass hammer to be sure of positive ignition of primers. You'll also need to remove a couple parts from the lower to make it work with a .50 upper. If you reload, Ben can set you up with .50 DTC dies and if local can walk you through loading it. He's a licensed FFL manufacturer and can load ammo for you if needed. As I said, be safe. |
