I have an Isralei rebarreled Styer 98 mauser and I ordered stripper clips for it.  Got them today and they don't work.... they're too narrow and won't bottom out on the stripper clip guide on the rear bridge.  What specific stripper clips do I need?  (the guide hasn't been altered at all).  The clips I have are brass and I believe they were advertised for the 98 mauser, Turk, etc. but obviously they don't work with this 98 mauser.

Is it in 8mm or 308?

7.64x51/308  The cartridges fit in the clips just fine, but the clips don't fit in the action just fine.

I just came in to possession of a Gewher 98 so I recently have been looking into this. It would seem that the Swedish 6.5x55mm Mauser clips work just fine and fit the 8mm Mausers without issue

Here is where I plan on getting my clips. Sarco Swedish Mauser Stripper Clips

Hope this helps.

Are the clips they sent you the same as the ones pictured?  T marked clips are Spanish 7mm for 93 and 95 mausers.  Swedish clips are marked H, A, K, 070, or a few have no marking.

I've never had a problem with the 8mm clips I've bought from Liberty Tree, but I idk if they'd hold .308 rounds.

Don't know, I haven't made the order yet. I only found these a day or two ago so hence why I brought them up.

Here's a good read to figure it out.

Did some measuring:  The clip slot is 0.635 +/- wide (above the small stops).  The clips I got are 0.521 wide.

The receiver is a 1934 Styer Solothurn originally made for the country of Colombia.  Other than wasting a few $$ on the unusable clips, it's no big deal, just a bit bothersome.

Peoples don't think clips be like they is but they do.

98 mausers take several different types of strippers depending on country. South american countries that adopted the 98 didn't just up and go for a new caliber/ clip design for logistical reasons. If your rifle has a Columbian receiver than the clip guide is machined to accept the previous style clip they had in inventory..  M93/95/96 mauser clips will work.  So will 1903 springfield clips (they ripped of mausers design)

Head size is the same, since the case design of the '06 was ripped off of the mauser parent cases, and 7.62X51 is a shortened '06

Anybody have a Mauser 93/95/96 clip they could measure how wide they are?  Both the "body" width and the width across the "nubs".

I bought a 40 pack of the Swedish 6.5 ones on ebay.  Someone on another board said they work for most any surplus calibers/rifles.
