I have some 53 and 55 grain Barnes TSX that I'd like to load which will primarily be shot in 16" 5.56 barrels.

On the Barnes website they only show .223 loads for these bullets so I'm curious what others are loading them to although I'm not really chasing the highest velocity possible.

I have H-322, H-335, Varget, Reloader 10 and Accurate 2200c and will be using Lake City brass with Winchester primers.

Thanks in advance!

Check the Barnes site again, they list loads for 556 in 16.5” barrels. Think it starts at 55 grain

They only list 5.56 loads for RRLP and TAC-X bullets.

.223 loads only for TSX bullets.

Didn't know they were similar.

I'll look at those loads.

Yeah TAC-X is the TSX.

A few years ago I bought some 53gr TSX and emailed Barnes asking about recipes and their reply was that since I was using a 5.56mm chamber, I can use 50gr TSX load data in .223 Remington

Whether or not their position has changed on the matter I'm not sure, but they are quick to reply to email and extremely helpful with load data.

Thanks for the shout out on Barnes customer service as I'll see if their thoughts have changed.

IIRC their 5.56 and 223 data is substantially different.  I don’t think I’ve seen such variations from a manufacturer before.

223 data:
55gr TSX
R10x  19.6gr starting  21.6gr Max
2798fps and 3068fps

5.56 data (16.5” and 20”)
55gr TSX
R10x 21.2gr starting   23.2gr Max
2864fps (16.5”) and 3022 fps
2821fps (20”) and 3022fps

There is a difference in 223 and 5.56 but wow

If I remember right my Barnes 62gr 5.56 load data, the minimum charge is a fill grain higher than the .223 max charge.

I will also add that the 62gr loads to .223 spec. SUCK
3 or 4 moa.

Every barnes bullet I have ever tried, did better in every way, when pushed.

11B3xCIB- I went back to the Barnes website and made a quick chart of their suggested loads between .223 and 5.56 and am still trying to make sense of charge weights and velocities as those are fairly big differences between the two chamberings.

I wrote Barnes customer service yesterday and will certainly be interested in their response which I'm holding off any load development until I hear from them.

Thanks for all the responses and the Barnes loading table!
