Legit question. Is this FBI background check “black hole” a thing? My Form 4 individual was cashed on 3/11 and my Form 1 was cashed on 4/10. I just called and they said they were waiting on the FBI. I’ve seen a lot of people have been approved in less of a time frame. I’ve never had this issue before. I guess I’ve been lucky until now and will chalk it up to the alphabet boys.

I had a form 1 submitted in Feb 2018. It sat in FBI limbo June, July and August. In the beginning of September I told the ATF examiner this was an absurd amount of time to wait and I wanted a phone number at the FBI. Of course, when I called it, they said they don't take messages and referred me to an email address. So, I unloaded both barrels on the FBI. I told them it was absurd and incompetent that they took so long to do their job. I informed them that they had done 6 other class 3 firearm background checks on me in the past along with a top secret security clearance I held for 23 years (yeah I realize that's unrelated, but I pulled out all the stops). I then told them that I expected word back from them within the week or I would be filing a congressional complaint with both of my senators and my congresswoman. That was on Wednesday. On Friday I got a call from a very apologetic FBI agent. As soon as I hung up from him (like 15 minutes later) I got a call from the ATF examiner saying my Form 1 was approved. On Monday I had my approved form in the mail.

Filed two Form 1 individual eforms on 11/5, approved on 11/19 and 11/20.
Paper forms on same SBRs sent on 9/15 and pending. Sent request today to withdraw paper applications and request refund. For now it makes sense to use eforms vs paper but who knows how long this will last. |

5 Form 1's
Individual - Paper 7-9-2018 / Mailed forms 7-16-2018 / Credit Card hit 11-26-2018 / 4 were approved, 1 needs amended Will update shortly. Edit 1.0 - Got stamps #2, 3, & 5 in the mail 11/30. Maybe #4 will show up today. Got a letter about #1 on Wednesday about the caliber being incorrect, wording about suppressor vs. silencer, and sending info to my CLEO. I don't know how that works on a Form 1 where I pick my caliber, but I would like to find out. After about 4 calls to local ATF, I just get forwarded to someone's voicemail. I did get a call back, but was talking to my son at the time & they didn't leave a message. These were all literally the same application with the only differences being the serial #'s, caliber, & length. I don't know man... I will try again next week. |
