my Beretta 1301 24" Comp won't cycle 7 shot 3DR. 1.125oz so I'm trying to find a lighter load that
willl work. anybody use the 1301?

Mine cycles everything I have ever put through it. It is also a 24".

I always shoot 7.5 or #8 shot for 3gun.

What was the velocity of that load you tried ?

1200 fps  1 1/8 oz in decent quality ammo (no Winchester bulk pack “Universal” stuff) will run those guns. You'll probably find that 1145 fps 1 1/8 oz will be good to go too.

Is the gas piston reasonably clean? (The Beretta does not need much maintenance but the gas piston and mag tube can't be rusted together)

Yes it's basically a new SG so it's clean but will only cycle heavy loads like 4 buck 00 etc. it's Winchester ammo I'm trying to run and it will at best get 2 off without short cycling. Will try Rem. And see if 1.25 oz will run.

Since it is a basically brand new shotgun I would run a few more mag tubes of high brass loads. It might just need a bit of break in. I would get some federal shells too and see if they cycle. I honestly can't remember if I have ever used Remington shotshells in my Beretta.

its had probably 100rds of heavy loads through it so it's not "brand new" but they run clean and like a top with heavy loads. just won't cycle skeet/trap loads which I find odd considering so many people say their 1301 will cycle anything. I sent it to Beretta way back over the infamous loading lockup fiasco and their CS was such I will never send it back for anything so that's out. I was just curious if others have experience with the 1301. it gets old on the shoulder shooting hot loads and I can't shoot skeet with it so it's pretty much a shtf shotty at this point. going to order some 1.25oz 6 shot and BB loads and see how that turns out.

Try the federal target loads. I have had bad luck with Winchester (I believe the under load their hulls with powder). My Saiga 12 will not cycle Winchester Universal or Target loads, but cycles federal target loads and bulk packs just fine. The federal stuff is 1 oz shot, 3 Dram, 2 3/4" 1250FPS

Saigas are known to be a bit finicky with target loads. It works fine in both my 11-87s mag and a Supermag.

yeah it feels way underpowered and is obviously the cheap stuff. will try Federal and Remmy next time.

The Federal Bulk packs are not anymore expensive at Walmart. I usually pick them up for $20-22 per 100, like I said they cycle fine in my auto loaders.

It may be that the chamber is rough and needs polished. The aluminum base  on Winchesters is notorious for swelling and sticking in chambers.  90 seconds with a cylinder home may fix your issue.

Pull the barrel and I bet you see some machining swirls.... The 870 i picked up to sbs a couple years ago looked like it had rifling in the chamber lol.

No problem, I'll also add that adding the magpul stock to my 1301 was well worth the cash. Much better handling and balance.

the breech looks good I think it's just a matter of the right ammo. I just got a box of 1-1/4oz 6 shot heavy game loads I'm going to try.
and as far as the stock I put a Mesa Urbino pistol grip on mine. I'm a big fan of the Mesa stocks, have one on my 11/87 also.
Either way the factory Beretta stock was the cheapest plastic they could dream up but it was light weight for sure.

Something is wrong with the gun, because it should cycle those without issue.

You didn't do any upgrades or make any changes to it?

extended mag tube, stock but otherwise factory. it wouldn't fire light loads from the get go. just have to live with it
and experiment to find the right loads that's why I posted here. I know it "should" fire them but it doesn't.
