Can you rebarrel a .270 wcf bolt action to a 30-06?

Obviously done by a professional smith....it's the weekend and I cannot ask the shop at this time and have a line on a particular rifle....it would be getting a new, heavier barrel regardless if it were originally in 30-06 anyway, so if I can get a less popular model cheaper, it would be a win win.

Basically, can this be done without changing anything else other than a rebarrel?

Thanks
E

I am sending a pre 64 m70 to TGA to have a military replica M70 sniper rifle built to resemble those used in the Vietnam War. 30-06 is the correct caliber.

More work than just the rebarrel, which is included in the price due to the correct barrel profile being used, and in 30-06.

Short of cloning the entire rig with a Uberti scope and all for grins (will have not resale vaule since it will be a clone),

Going from 270 to 30-06 is really the long way to go for long range shooting.

The 270 shoots flatter for the same yardage you will be pushing the rifle in 30-06, and will be more accurate isntead.

Truth be told, the Win 70 action was short lived, with the M40 in 308 became the major player instead.  And to take it one step farther, in a non military role, the 243 is the better round over the 308, since again it shoots much flatter for the ranges that the rifle will be pushed.

Hence all the calibers stated above use the same bolt face diameter, so it really boils down to the use of the rifle, the ranges it going to be pushed, and the scope system on the rig to accommodate for ballistic drop quickly as well (without needing a spotter to do the match for you for adjustments quickly instead).

I understand that 30-06 is not the most effective round in today's world...That is not the point of this build. If I were looking to have the -most- accurate, flat shooting round, I wouldn't have half the firearms I own, nor a Sharps in 45-70 ... But I appreciate your insight.

The 270 will be 4" flatter at 400 yards.

That's nothing.

If this company builds replicas, they can easily unthread a barrel and replace it with a properly profiled and timed (head spaced) barrel.
