Is it suitable for definsive use??

How well does it run if you cut down the barrel? Would you take it over a mossberg 930?

if you go short, it may not reliably function with light loads for practice..., the factory 21"1187 barrels are like the 1100 barrels in that they don't have the large gas ports and  gas release ring... I had to weld up the large holes in my cut down to 21" 1187 to make it reliably work with light field loads.....this was with an older 1187 (I switched to the Benelli in 2005 ) so I am not sure if the gas system has been changed since then

You made the gas ports smaller in a cut down barrel to get it to cycle with light loads?

I plugged the large forward exhaust port under the "C" clip, not the gas tap hole into the barrel, essentially turning it in to an 1100 barrel... I most likely opened up the gas tap holes a couple of drill sizes, but don't remember

Remington states that the 1187 barrels shorter than 26" do not have the gas regulating set up and are intended for use with heavy loads.

after the modification, my 1187 ran with 3 dram 1 1/8 oz of  #7 1/2 for 3 gun use until I purchased the Benelli, the primary advantage I saw to the 1187 was the much more robust extractor....of which I had broken 3 or 4 on the 1100s over the years
