I wanted to put a bipod on my Takedown that has a Backpacker stock on it and from doing research it seemed like the only way that didn’t involve permanently altering the stock was to clamp the bipod directly onto the barrel.

Obviously, attaching something directly to the barrel of a gun isn’t ideal but I decided to give it a try.

Here is the rifle setup:

It has a TacSol barrel, a Magpul bipod, a Vortex Diamondback 3-9, a UTG shotgun rail adapter and a UTG quick disconnect rail (the blue towel is there to prevent marring of the barrel while I tested out the rig).

I used Winchester White Box 38 grain Copper Plated Hollow Point ammo.

This first target is 50 rounds from 50 yards:

Am I going to win any competitions? Hell no, but it’s better than I could shoot offhand at 100 yards and a sub-2” group at 50 yards is accurate enough to take a rabbit.

What’s wrong with mounting a sling stud on the fore end?

You might not be able to install upper back into stock when you break down. The space is fitted pretty tight.

That’s the reason for the QD mount for the bipod, easy to take off and put on so I can still break down the rifle and store it as intended.
