You can touch up the aluminum with aluminum black or a black paint pen, if you'd like. I prefer to grind it away so it 'scoops' the gas from the bottom. In my mind, it's more effective that way. Don't try this on some charging handles as this space may be taken up with other mechanical doodads. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/22449/IMG_20130521_075400_jpg-770448.JPG https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/22449/ar15chmod03_jpg-770449.JPG It pretty amazing how hard 7075 is to drill a hole in compared to regular old aluminum |

I may go that route. And you have tried the Raptor SD? Quoted:

@BigWaylon @11b3xcib Where on the CH are you drilling holes? Got a pic for reference? Doesn't have to be the same size bit, just something close that lets some of the gas out. |

I've shot my friends 16" AR with an Omega and Raptor SD but I haven't played with it on multiple rifles like I have some of the others. The Raptor seemed to work well but again i never shot that gun with any other handle to compare it to. Quoted:

See pics posted above. I also saved this bookmark from when I first tried it: https://www.ar15.com/forums/armory/_ARCHIVED_THREAD____Suppressed_AR___and_hate_getting_gas_in_the_face_/20-311612/?page=1 Doesn't have to be the same size bit, just something close that lets some of the gas out. That’s exactly how I did it I’ll find the CH at home and add a picture |

My setup is:
-Surefire RC2 -11.5 Colt HRT Barrel (.07 GP) -LMT Enhanced Carrier -Geissele Super 42 + H3 Buffer -Geissele ACH It can still get gassy depending on shooting position, ammo, and ambient conditions but 90% of the time there are no issues. I am curious to try RTV and see what it does and how long it'll last. |

Fancy charging handles are a waste of money in my opinion. Unless you need an ambi solution I don't see the point. I just use a standard CH on my Colt/Surefire set up and the blowback isn't an issue. |

Anyone use the Black River Tactical inserts to tune the gas or is an adjustable gas block the better option for that situation? |

I have used them. They work, but they are kind of a pain unless you buy a bunch of them and try them. I have two rifles that I have them in and I had to try a few options before I found one that works. They are good about exchanging them, but it's a lot if shipping back and forth. Quoted:

Griffin SNACH, Bootleg BCG, and H3 buffer. No noticeable gas on my 10.3" SBR with Omega 300 I put one in a 10.5" that was throwing brass over 15' at 1 o'clock and now it throws brass maybe 4' or 5' at 4 o'clock |

I was surprised with the SOB buffer as well. I had one for a while and never really tested it until recently. Mine didn't last long in full auto though. A few 45 round 5.45 mags and it destroyed the bumper and the polymer washer between the body and head mushroomed out of the body. However, I was impressed with it before I noticed the failures. Griffin took care of me and sent me a replacement seen on the right. New design has eliminated that washer. http://c3junkie.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/AR-SOB_2.png The internal rubber spacers were also deteriorating as can seen below. http://c3junkie.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/sob2-1024x941.png The pin took a beating. I may replace with a spring pin. http://c3junkie.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/sob5-1024x588.jpg I put the weights in a tumbler and salvaged a standard carbine buffer for replacement internal spacers and a bumper. http://c3junkie.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/sob4-1024x608.jpg I also used a multi-wave disc compression spring between the body and head. http://c3junkie.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/sob3-1024x712.jpg Again, I was impressed with the performance of the buffer. It has like a triple action buffering design. I wouldn't go through the trouble of replacing parts if I wasn't impressed with it. Quoted:

I think the wave spring is an great idea if you're using it full auto. |

I would be curious to hear more about the SOB buffer. There is definitely not a lot of information out there about it. I had ranked it second in my testing for my goals.

I paced it off at 18' and about 6' or so forward of the gun (shooting from bench height) With just the SOB it tamed it to about 5' straight out (again from bench height) |
