I'm thinking then that you would not approve of my Weaver 36x fixed power on one of mine, eh?

Woody it doesnt matter if i appove or not, its what you like so what are your sniping, ants @100 yards

photo as promised, trigger pull is set @ heavy 1.5

Actually, it's set up for shooting US Benchrest targets at 25 yards.  The x ring on them is f'ing TINY!
And just so you will know, I pulled it off last night and put on a Bushnell 4x to try for some fast target acquisition.  You can't really track from target to target at 36x.  The field of view at 25 yards is like 5 inches....

Here is my Bushnell banner on my 10/22. It is a 6x18x50 AO scope. The scope is clear and holds zero prefectly. I got it on clearance from Wally Mart for $89.99.

you guys kill me with the hi-power scope on a 22 the whole idea is to have a lightweight, decent glass, GOOD rings (no cheapies) and a accurate barrel.

svi40 is a really nice example of a perfect 10/22

The scope I use is Burris FullField II 3x9 ballistic plex with weigand base and rings.

The whole idea?!  There is no perfect 10/22.  It's all in what you plan to do with it.  Build accordingly.

My 10/22 setup is long, heavy, and has a 6-24x42 scope.  Would I want to carry it all day, or shoot it offhand all day?  No.  I set it up to shoot prone from a bipod.  I like the added weight, helps keep me from moving around during the shot.

And seeing bullet holes appear on paper at 24x @ both 50 and 100 yards is nice.  Think of it like a built-in spotting scope.  I can smack a steel plate that is smaller than a pop can, @ 100 yards allday long.  Good luck doing that with 9x zoom.

eta:  What I think is crazy, are pure benchrest guns that get clamped into a solid rest, wear a 36x or higher scope, to shoot at targets 25 yards away.  THAT to me is retarded, but to each their own.  It's a great way to see how a gun or bbl. itself will perform, but doesnt say much about the shooter.  If I did that, I might as well weld the thing to a big steel box.  I shoot prone from a bipod so that there is some other variable (ME) in my groups.  If I don't hold steady and fire smoothly, my groups will show it. lol, I've never even shot my 10/22 at 25 yards!

I have no problem consistently blasting small birds @ 100 yards using the ballistic plex scope, as it allows for proper holdover. Also MY purpose was a balls on accurate SHTF 10/22 that all of my family could handle with easy. I use my bull barrel (heavy) savage mark II for bench shooting.

But again, to each his own... I guess MY idea of a perfect 10/22 is lightweight

Weaver Grand Slam 1.5-5 x32. I pulled this scope off of another rifle, so it wasn't purchased specifically for my Remington 597, but I love it's wide FOV and clarity for targets up to 50 yards. I just completed finishing this pepper laminate "seconds" stock from Boyds I picked up for $30. 8 coats of TruOil later, I'm happy.

I'm seeing several low-quality scopes on some of you guys' 10/22's.

Why do you spend hundreds of dollars accurizing your rifle with barrels, triggers, and stocks, then slap a $50 Wal-Mart special scope on top of it?

The 10/22 I'm building got a 2-7x33 Leupy Rifleman.  It was only $185 and is covered by Leupold's excellent lifetime warranty.

To each his own, I guess.

I tend to agree, it doesnt take long to have 500 plus in the rifle. This is my fourth build, I had everything from a BC barrel and stock to a heavey SS bull barrel. Ive had cheaper optics on some of my builds, but the burris for 200.00 or less is the best glass for the money on a 10/22.

FWIW, everyone 10/22 represent what THEY want in the rifle, sometime it takes several attemps before we REALLY find out what we want in that weapon. Which explains why there is so much good stuff for sale in the EE

I think you're right.

It takes a good bit of experience before shooters realize the advantages of good glass.  I was a gun owner for several years before I spent more than $150 on an optic.

It's the same reason we see fancy accessorized AR15's with really cheap optics.  Most people who have never used good optics can't understand why some of us spend so much on glass.

I now have a Bushnell Banner scope on mine.  $51 from Midway.  I just took off a 36x Weaver ($350+).  For the work that a 10/22 is honestly expected to do (average shots are gonna be daytime at less than 50 yards), there just honestly isn't that much difference between your lower priced scopes and your pricier.  I don't see the need to overkill it.  For my .204 Ruger, which is a 400+ meter gun, I opted for Zeiss.  On the 10/22, I just figure I will get more out of spending the extra $$$ on the guts or stock....  IMHO.  YMMV.

You'll laugh at this one, but there's a valid reason.

Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x 40mm

But, I have the tendency to swap scopes around. I wanted something I could also use on a regular power .308 etc. bolt action.

I love the glass though. Mine's more of a target rifle than anything else (it's a bit heavy).

No pic right now, but I have a Bushnell 3200 10X Mildot in Leupy MK4 rings on a Power Custom base on my otherwise stockish (BHO and ext mag release added) 10/22T.

Almost as interesting at 200yards as my 308 is at 800............

Boringly accurate with Wolf Match ammo at 50..............

Leupold Rifleman 2-7x33

$185 at Wal-Mart with a lifetime warranty.

Rings and mounts are Leupold as well.  The mount may seem goofy at first with the way it hangs over the bbl, but it keeps me from having to mount the scope all the way forward in the rings to get the proper eye relief.
