Kick ass! Will this work on any standard AR15 lower?
If so will this be a FFL-less conversion? |
wow...just wow i can't wait till i get mine...and if the other gun looks half as good as that one then i might have to get both.....
This may just make me have to get some paperwork started for one of these as an SBR. That upper on an AR-15 lower looks really cool! since there was no real info up till now on the 5.7 progress I was a little surprised to see the prototype that uses the P90 mags this soon.
That AR upper is outstanding! Ejecting through the magwell is a great idea. I can't wait to get one!
Can we get a price on the upper reciever conversion, I'd have money to put down now......I want it please, please where do I send my cash........
Rhineland,
Assuming it ejects through the magwell, something I was just thinking about is taking an AR mag, grinding off the feedlips (so as not to interfere with the 5.7 upper...), cutting off the bottom and attaching a nylon bag-->easy brass catcher. Is that a feasible idea? |
Or just cut the feed lips off and use the mag body with floor plate in place as a bras catcher.
Since it has no use for the buffer spring, I am assuming that no part of the bolt/carrier would go back into the buffer tube........see where I am going with this....an ACE folder would be great. This is getting me very interested........now just make the ammo cheap |
oh yea folder all the way....maybe a slide-in ooo
how about a crown royal bag as a brass catcher heh question, is this going to be sold as an upper only, or as a full firearm, or both? |
<---- Happy he horded P90 50 round mags!
ETA: That will look pretty sweet on an SBR lower! |
HK_DUDE, great idea -- the ACE folder would make it plenty short -- maybe cut the barrel back to 11" (almost the original P90 length) and add a 5" flash hider for and even shorter look! Oh crap, I need money -- credit card -- no,no,no -- home improvement loan, yea, that could work. |
Magazines cost around $50 and are extremely nice. I will post a link as soon as I can find them.
Midway USA will have ammo at a good price soon. here is your cut and past link http://www.midwayusa.com/ebrowse.exe/browse?tabid=3&categoryid=17476&categorystring=653***691*** |
I see in the proto-type pic that the charging handle in on the right side....any chance to make it so you can switch it over to either right or left? I am very partial to the left side.....but some would want right......it wouldn't make or break the deal, it would just be great to have the option.
Also, have we heard a "Ball park" cost for the upper? I need to know what I need to sell out of the collection to get ready. Do you have a link to a specific source for the $50 mags? I have seen that CMMG has them for $59.99, but every $10 saved gets me more ammo down the road. I think it is great that you guys are doing this NEW stuff......keep up the good work. |
Just PLEASE tell me that the bolt will trip a dias or work in a RR!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!
For you 17HMR fans, this is like a hyper version of one of those. We have some SS192 ammo that we have been shooting into a test tank. Ammo is pretty wild stuff.
The bonus over the 17hmr is the quality of the mags and the reloadable ammo. It looks like we will be looking at $10-$12 per 50 rounds in 6 months. |
Too bad you can't get the SS195 ammo -- it's the same as the SS192 but with leadless primers. No lead vapor to breath when at indoor shooting ranges. That SS192 stuff you're shooting has become a kinda collectors item since FN seems to be shipping the SS192 only to government agencies now! What ever is still available to us peons cost an arm or leg or both! |
lucky for me i have a ton of the $$$ stuff
has anyone shot the ss196 round? (its the one with the v-max tip) i am betting that will be a great round out of that rifle |
Ballistics Tables for the 5.7x28mm Ammunition Muzzle velocity: |---------------P90-------|----------PS90---------|------FiveseveN----| SS190 |----(2350 fps)-----------(2750 fps)-------------(2150 fps)-----| SS191 |----(2350 fps)-----------(2750 fps)-------------(2150 fps)-----| SS192 |----(2350 fps)-----------(2750 fps)-------------(2150 fps)-----| SB193 |----(1000 fps)-----------(1400 fps)-------------(800 fps)------| SS195 |----(2350 fps)-----------(2750 fps)-------------(2150 fps)-----| SS196 |----(1800 fps)-----------(2200 fps)-------------(1600 fps)-----| SS197 |----(2200 fps)-----------(2600 fps)-------------(2000 fps)-----| The P90 has a 10" barrel, The civilian PS90 has a 16" barrel and the FiveSeven pistol is in the 5" range. I would guess the PS90 and the Rhineland carbine would have similar ballistics. The SS196 is actually the slowest round but designed for hunting. The SS195 is the same as the SS192 except for the primer being lead-free. Some of the rounds listed (per FN) are not available to civilians (due to all the hassle from the Brady people I'll bet). |

I will DEFINITELY buy one of those 5.7 uppers......when does it ship?
went to a gun show in arkansas on sunday
brought the R22 and before i even made it to my table i had people stopping me asking what it was and what i wanted for it.... we also told everyone about the 5.7 rifle and a ton of people love the idea and wanted to know who makes them...all in all it was a good show but the r22 was the sexyest thing in the room. picked up a eaa witness too woot |
Well, I just ordered 2 - 50rd P90 mags from CMMG. I guess I will have to buy one of these uppers now......let me know when/where to sign up. The $500 upper price range sound do-able.
CMMG has one more 50rd mag for $59.95. I probably paid too much, but I wanted a couple secured....just in case. |
That price range seems to be the going rate. Not sure yet on the time frame for release but working on it asap.
The second 5.7 rifle will most likely use a HK type delay blowback system. This 5.7 round is very potent and we need to find a way to tame it. |
Potent.....I like that word! Got my 4 5.7 P90 mags......just waitin'! |
man i can wait i have me and at lease 5-6 other people wanting one...
prob going to try to order a ton of mags and get them really cheap |
This thread with the picture of the AR 5.7 upper has now cost me over $1300. I'll explain:
After seeing the pic, I knew that I would HAVE to have one. so I bought: 2 - 50rd P90 mags ($125 total) 2 - 50rd boxes of 196 ammo ($35) Then seeing the ammo for the first time I thought "This is a cool little cartridge" so I then bought: 1 - FN USG pistol ($850) 5 - 50rd boxes of 196 ammo ($110 shipped) 5 - 50rd boxes of 195 ammo ($125 shipped) 2 - 20rd extra USG mags ($75 shipped) Look what you caused...haha. I am very excited about this new upper......I just had to chime in again and give her another Bump |
I fell in love with it....and I have only ran 20 rounds through it...20rds = 1 mag!!!!
I finally got to shoot my FiveseveN the other day for the first time. I really like it! Now I'm wanting a rifle in that caliber and using the FiveseveN mags...
Update from Rhineland????? Woody |
10 mags and counting.
But then again I am a mag whore and have been waiting for hte p90 for some time now. This is a nice bonus however! CH |
the ar57 upper is in limited production right now. I just need to test the rate reducer to make sure it does not effect any other parts, then its off to full production.
I have left it so that the rear block holding the rear sight can be completely removed, that way you can update it with something else should it come along. The rifle taking the 57 pistol mags is coming along very slow. just a time problem. |
That is very exciting....thanks for the update. If you did have anymore pics (maybe some close-ups too) that would be awesome! Thanks |
I am up to 4 mags now...........
Need more info...can't sleep at night |
+1 |
Need update . . . the suspense is killing me. How about a few more photos of that sexy rifle to use as wallpaper.
I've moved these back while Rhineland Arms works out the details for their dealership account.
I put a temporary hold on the 2nd 5.7 rifle until we can come up with a good stock solution. I realy like the rifle but need to fix that problem first.
The AR upper is coming along good. We are just swamped on installing some new machines so most everything else is at a stop for right now. Also, the head of manufacturing came up with a very good idea for making the upper stronger and better able to withstand hot loads so I want to get thoe changes made asap before we do more testing. |
Thanks for the update. It is much appriciated! CH |
