Yeah, I know the iron trick and use it alot. I thought that those stocks started out all dinged and dirtied up like mine.
The process I used on my last one was to strip the shellac by wiping with a rag dampened with denatured alcohol, scrub with a scrub brush, detergent , and hot water to try and get the dirt out, steam out the dents with an iron (NOT steaming out the cartouche on the stock), sand down the damaged wood and splinters to the good wood (60 grit/100/150/220 But NOT sanding the cartouche), wipe down with mineral spirits to prep for finish, and then two coats of 1 pound cut amber shellac, and buff out the shine with steel wool. The feel and finish of the stock is fantastic, very few dents and a nice satin type texture, but it still has speckle marks where the dents were due to the discoloration of the wood.
I guess my next K-31 or three will come from Allan's
Those look very nice. What how were they rated?
