trying to reset the elevation wheel to the proper position and I cannot seem to get the allen key to engage the screw.  Seems like a non-issue, as I should be able to just dial the elevation to bottom out, then just come up 3 clicks?  still would like to disassemble it though.  Thoughts gentlemen?

Which ever you have, make sure the dial is set at 8/3 or 6/3. Then you should see / access the allen screw.

i saw it,  had the right size key and it wouldn't engage it.  I punched out the roll pin underneath and just disassembled the whole thing that way.  Perhaps I should have been more patient assembling it back in the day.

Perhaps try a torx bit instead of an allen bit.  You can rotate it 90 degrees and observe the screw to check for damage to the head.  I've seen some that are rounded off.
