Back when DPMS discontinued their dedicated 22 with the 10/22 style bolt I found (midway I think) uppers only heavily discounted and bought one. My initial reaction was I must have got a lemon, wouldn't hit the broadside of
a barn with any ammo I fed it, unlike all the reviews I read about them. It was WAY worse than the Ceiner/Atchison kit I had on a 1/12 .223 upper, never liked the Ceiner either. So the upper just collected dust for a decade.
I have a savage 22 bolt rifle that is fairly accurate, but with my suppressor purchase I got a large assortment of heavier than 40gr subsonic rounds to try in it, and a couple 40 gr subsonic. They were ok for the best of them
and not too good for most in accuracy. Ok being worst group 8/10's at 55 yards, anything more not good. Of course the best was the winchester load made in Australia that is no longer available. I came accross a discount on
a XX match Douglas 22 blank in 1-14 twist and said what the heck, it can't hurt. Had the nice added benefit of plenty of barrel blank left to have my DPMS dust catcher rebarreled into an 11" pistol upper. I had both done at the
same time by Paladin Machine service, he is only an hour and 30 minutes drive. I went there and he had a heck of a time getting the barrel off the savage, they don't come off as easy as their centerfires, even though they
have a barrel nut, one that has no flat on it. He looked at me after a while and asked if I minded if he destroyed the barrel nut and made me a new one with proper wrench flats for an extra 15 bucks, go for it. The DPMS upper
had a thick heavy round free float forearm on it. Turned out that was a problem getting off. I told him I don't care about the forearm, I'm putting a different one on it anyway. Left the Savage barrel and upper there and went
