Writing in another post i remembered this and i thought to ask you about it. While choosing my new ar in a lgs in Italy a few weeks ago, i noticed one of the new cr6921 had a yellow blob of paint (maybe half an inch of diameter) just under the barrel, I tried to eipe it out thinking it was some kind of preservative but it was paint!

How is that?

QC marking denoting that the gas port has been drilled/checked at the factory.

They sometimes mark parts with yellow or white paint after qc checks.

Just an easily identifiable visual confirmation.  Just like the white paint dots signifying proof testing of bolts.

Here's my new Colt barrel from USA! Pinned and welded it myself as a replacement barrel.

Not testing, confirmation that the process was completed. Human performed step and not all get marked.

(Inspiring, no?)

Checked, but not marked. Or so I was told.  I had a 6921 barrel w/o the marking in 2017 (?).

Colt CS told me it was "a human performed task, some are missed, but are inspected" . Same with HPT paint dot on bolts.

ETA: "Should be"...I see it now.
