American issue? European? M993 is routinely anywhere from $40-70/rd. P80 Black tip is around $5-6/rd . M80A1 while not AP per the military, is known to  penetrate barriers very well. That's typically $10/rd..

Reload projectiles from 30-06 M2 AP's? Those work very well.

Other than scoring on gunbroker and paying an arm and a leg it is restricted. M61 or m993 are both really expensive without the secret ingredient. You could buy pulled bullets and load your own for a lot cheaper

I've got some m61 TZZ or FN, about 20-30 rds left.

I've never seen pulled M993. At least in the last 5yrs I've been looking for it.

Other than 'just to have some' for collectors, is there any real reason for AP .308 nowadays?

Seems like a very niche/narrow application against Lvl3/Lvl3+, but not Lvl4.

Was thinking 7.62x51 AP ammo was a "No Go", because some dufas made a single shot .308 pistol and it became "verbotten"

We have 855 only because it is specifically written into the law that M855 / S109 is NOT considered "Armor Piercing Ammo" - even though there are 5.56 "pistols"

Seemed to recall that the Las Vegas shooter purchased 7.62x51 AP ammo and the Feds went after his ammo guy for making it for him.

Going off memory - so if anyone has clarification either way - chime in!

I thought the LV thing was more a 'manufacturing for sale without paying .gov their cut' kinda deal.

Federally as a civilian you can buy all sorts of AP ammo.  The restrictions are placed on FFL's for manufacturer and sale of it.

There are very few level IV plates that will stop M993 AP from a 16" .308 ;)

Yeah, but how long has it been since that projectile went out of production?  It's still out there but supplies are drying up every year

Yes they are getting to be above the $2 mark for mediocre grade bullets.

I'd gladly move a couple of M993 someone's way, but you probably won't like the price. You're better off just shooting the same area as many times as possible..

Thanks. I guess it's a good thing it's not particularly common/easily available.
