Ideally a second or third rifle would be the best option. But I was asking for the guys, that may have one or two AR's and want to keep them running, if parts become hard to get due to legislation.

None. Because all spare parts are required to be built into complete rifles as required by law /s

.......ammo (parts) !

I finally did something with the stripped lower i had in the safe and
assembled my first AR.  Long overdue though I am quite new to the
AR family though not firearms.  Good info from this thread and it turns
out that I had many of the spares.

I keep around the most common wear parts.
Gas Rings
firing pin retaining pin
extractor spring, extractor
firing pin
ejector spring
disconnector
hammer
trigger springs

The bolt has the most wear parts and is where I see almost all range failures.  I always bring an extra BCG to the range with me.  Way easier to just thrown in a new BCG then dick with changing rings or what not in the field.  Hammer and springs will be the next issue but those should last a very long time.  Other than magazines and maybe the barrel, the rest of the rifle should last a life time.

From the high-volume fire threads, usually, it comes down it this, in priority:

1. Bolts (Bundled with extractor, extractor spring, gas rings, etc.)
ETA: 1b. Cam pin, Firing Pin, Retaining Pin
2. Barrels/Uppers
3. Buffer/Trigger Springs

Needless to say, bad mags also cause quite a few issues, so have spares and label them.

Plural, extra rifles....

Dont laugh, but add to the list stocks, grips, FH's, muzzle devices....remember during the first ban, FH's were evil, stocks and grips may become evil down the road.

Mags and springs, followers....

I am not a high volume shooter, I would rather work on them than shoot them, just me, so I have a few rifles that are range guns, I look at the rest as down the road back ups.

Thank you both @nsnate02 and @smokedoff

That helps my conundrum for parts storage.... a lot.

I don't want to cast aspersion's to the above link... it is great, but Flambeau ( and maybe others ) makes plastic storage containers that have "Zerust" Technology... some of the plastic is VCI
( Volatile corrosion inhibitor ) infused into it ... so it helps stop rust for up to 5 years.

I use a lot of VCI products and it works great.

So maybe while anyone is looking for a plastic organizer ... look around at the Falmbeau Fishing stuff.

Flambeau Fishing Catalog

And for everyone else... this thread has taken quite a bit of thinking out of what goes into the bugout bags.

Thanks to all.
