Bought 3 cheap barrels from this thread..., and $300 for handguards is preferable to $650 for handguards.
Doesn't need to be bomb-proof, but stronger is (of course) better. Extra points for light weight. Non-FF is worth considering, if you have a good candidate. |

Definitely the Expo Combat/CMT HDM.
They are one of the most bomb proof mounting solutions at any price and CMT makes the HDM/DRT model if tanodized is your thing. |

Mine was seekins nox rails in the $150 ballpark. Not sure they are still making them.
Edit: Just looked around and they are but seem to gone up to $180-190 |

I scored a Midwest Industries FF quad rail for $40 in the EE a while back. Just keep an eye on the used upper and accessory sections and you will probably find some nice rails with minor wear for cheap.

Don't buy cheap chinese junk, you'll be reminded every time you pick them up.
Look for a sale, I just picked up 2 Bravo rails for about $130 /each from primary arms on sale and 12% off. Bravo Company Manufacturing MCMR-13 Modular Rail AR-15 Handguard - 13.4" |

I really like the Aero Atlas One, or any Aero offering really. Watch for sales or 12% at Primary arms and you be just north of $100ea

I'm currently working on 2x budget bang for your buck builds to see how cheap I can go for quality, but least expensive parts, where I did months of research on mainstream and brands you probably never heard of. I settled with Trybe on the handguard.
If you think the Expo Arms price is good for decently good looking quality handguards, check out the Trybe Defense ones from Optics Planet. Not only do they have lightweight quality variances, but they look fucking cool too. (I have a couple). It uses a clamp on design with a knurled barrel nut, which I've never heard anyone have a clamp on design rotate. They're also slim, which people seem to like more than some of the chonky hexagonal handguards or circular handguards companies used to put out years ago (Samson to name one) You're looking at around $65-$110 shipped if you have a coupon. I got a 15" 'extra lightweight' for $88. Free 2 day with this coupon: 2DAYAIR Variant 1 Variant 2 |

Quoted: ALG View Quote You didn't think the mounting process was atypically complex and annoying? You need a proprietary wrench to do it right and it wasn't a $5 thing you could grab at home depot. I think they're POSs and surprised more than 1 person has recommended them. They also cost double what most would consider budget. I think they stopped making them?..(hmm probably because they were pieces of crap) My recco would be the righttobear mlok freefloat. Really impressed with what you get for the cost and the design/style is right up my alley. (Of course that's a style and personal preference thing.) |

Aero and Matrix Arms have been GTG for several of my builds. Both have been ran hard with no issues.

ADE Pro Keymod from opticsfactory.com
10" T7075, not the cheaper 6061, held on with cap screws, not a frigging clamp, and made in the USA, for $53. They also have longer ones. Or Guntec, seen some deals on those, but suspect they are china man. |

I found a 14" MI SLH on sale at midwayusa last year for $135. I was just randomly looking for a FF hand guard. It was $30 cheaper than anywhere else. Before I found the MI, I was considering stngr. They appear to be well made and inexpensive.

DTT has a ton of handguards at different lengths for less than a hundred. Im not sure what lengths you'd be looking for. PSA also has quite a few. I'm running the cross cut on one of my builds and its pretty light weight.

Quoted: Larue LAT. Clamp style handguards are garbage. View Quote When I was ready to go FF, I bought a UU kit. $99 upper $99 handguard designed to bolt directly to that upper $99 gas block $99 muzzle device $99 buttstock... But in the end, it all worked out if $800 + stripped lower was your idea of a budget build. |
