I know that GI mags have gone through several upgrades since I've last bought any, so I was wondering if there's any consensus on what is currently the most reliable AR mag.

&#!*, forgot to include P-Mags in the poll. Mods, a little help please!

USGI with magpul follower, EMP 2 tan mags with new follower

ETA - I personally own a variety of everything though. Lancer, magpul, Colt/okay/center etc. they all run great with 0 issues

Well in my defense I remembered it when I did the poll the first time, before the mods moved it, and then I was in a hurry to redo the poll and forgot about it. So blame the mods. It's all their fault.

In my experience g.i. mags are g.i. mags.   They're adequate.

I only own GenM3 Pmags anymore.  They're better.

I've only ever had 1 gi mag that came with a rock river ar my dad gave me as my first rifle. Too long ago to remember what exactly it was but it always had feeding issues. Been using pmags ever since .  A few years back I picked up a couple emags. I have piles of gen 2 and 3 pmags but never use them though I've never had a single malfunction with either. The emags just pull from pouches so smoothly and function 100 percent. I've had one loaded for years now and occasionally pull it out to check the lips. It's still perfect. They aren't $10 local like the gen 2's and that's the only reason I haven't swapped completely over to them. I'm sure there are some super reliable metal mags out there but I cant find any reason to buy them.

For me there is only one USGI 20/30s have stood longer and used in more numbers then any other.  I've used them from -50 to 130+ degrees, swam with them in the worlds oceans and rivers, jumped them and used them hard around the world on 5 continents.  Plastics get brittle at cold temps.  They're cheap and disposable if needed (at least till Dems try and ban them).

How could you possibly forget the most reliable mag made?
My question exactly

My mag pile is big piles of Okay 30's (some with the prerelease red Magpul followers), others with tan, some NHMTG 20rds, more Brownells 20rds, Pmag 30s, Pmag straight 20s, an EMAG, some original Lancers, more recent production Lancers, and that's about when I gave up trying varieties.

They all seem to get muddy, carbon coated, bounced around, and dropped (dropped an 50 cal ammo can full of loaded mags the other day - glad my foot wasn't under it), then repeat of such things.

USGI Aluminum 20 rounder with alloy follower.  Everything else falls somewhere behind.

D@H or OKAY with Magpul Followers or PMags.

All three seem equally reliable for me.

PMags evidently can take more abuse. Aluminum last longer.

In 20 years of AR ownership I only had issues with the black thermold magazines.

Original gi 20’s, al followers
Original gi 30’s , I’m recalling black followers that I replaced with green.
2000-2010 gi
Pmag 2nd gen
Lancer 20’s

Above all gtg.

Didn’t vote.

This.

Except for the mags with X's on them. Every other mag I was issued had worked flawlessly. If they have X's on them turn them back in to the armory for different mags.

So true.

Where the other most popular magazines that are talked about in this forum?

The OP is ignorant.

Why not search the forum before asking this question, that appears almost weekly here?

FWIW, back in the day, the USGI 20s with the alloy follower was the standard by which all other mags were judged. Perhaps that's changed, but I never has a problem, in the weeds, or after with them.

Statistics determine that.

What is a reliable mag?

Usgi, pmags, and lancers have been proven n war.

What else do you really need to know? Are you going to war or something?

Go out and experiment for yourself what will work with your particular rifle.

Poll Sucks

All my Mag's operate 100%

D&H , Okay , Magpul Gen 2&3 , Lancer & even the few CProduct mag's work 100%

All my USGI have MagPul followers

I don't think the alloy follower is a component in the USGI 20's reliability.  Plastic follower 20s should be just as reliable.
