I am so frustrated with as designs that I think I am done messing with their products. I bought several of their products and for over a month now nothing is still working. I have tried getting help on here (thank you all who did spend time via pms trying to help), but still am not any farther along with getting any of this stuff to work as it should. I think what is most frustrating is that fact that I can't call them for help. I can only email them  and then have to wait sometimes days for a response. I have been going back and forth-answering their questions-send another email and then wait and wait. I included several pictures of everything, and then I wait and wait for a response again.  So I emailed them and told them this as I have been waiting over a day and a half since my last emails were sent with no response still. I reached out to Deez Nutz as well, they are a little more responsive than as designs, but again I can't call and speak to anyone. I just sit here and wait for them to get back to me. All so frustrating.

I started to install my arc fire but it looked too wide I have two cassette, one I have working and the other I'm still trying to get the right combination of buffer and recoil spring to work with the silencer.

I have a super safety too but "testing" these blasters is expensive. I had one set up that malfunctioned every 100+ rounds. As much as I like hosing steel it's a lot of ammo for me to get confident a blaster works

I put a partisan in an old police surplus m and p. I had to change the semi bolt and carrier to a noveske fa (that's what they had at the gun shop) and I took a Colt spring and buffer out of my Euro Colt. Runs great. It's a riot.

My buddy had a Ruger AR. I put a rare breed in his, put in a PSA full auto carrier and he bought a h2(?) and a regular power spring that I put in. I took his out and it also ran fine.

I have a rare breed with an h3 I can't seem to get working despite using a bunch of different weights.

I did my research and gambled on Partisan being the best and cheaper choice.

Used a H3 buffer and it works great.

I feel for the OP and glad this is posted in the ROF subforum and not GD and avoiding the endless…

…comments!

I’m in the opposite boat actually.  I started out with DTT/RBT FRTs and while I had no issues getting them to run right out of the gate, I recently bought a V2 with Geissele SSA-E and 45/90 selector and now want to swap out my DTT/RBT FRTs for them…which would not be an inexpensive proposition.  The trigger pull quality combined with the safety selector throw is just absolute TITS and a day and night improvement over the DTT/RBT!

The first FRT build problems (using a DTT/RBT FRT) I ever encountered were just recently while user a complete Colt IAR upper.  I didn’t have an H3 buffer handy, and my other builds ran fine with H2s and I was getting really frustrated with intermittent function, hammer follow, etc.  I thought the Tromix H3 buffer would solve the problem and it didn’t…but turns out it was NOT a buffer issue.

The bolt/BCG that Colt included with the IAR upper (at least the one I received) apparently is garbage and leaking.  After swapping out the bolt with the one that was in my Colt 6940, along with the Tromix H3 buffer, it runs perfectly, has a reasonable ROF and consistently locks back on an empty mag with a near 3 o’clock ejection pattern…what’s not to like!

When they (FRTs) don’t run it can be frustrating AF.  I was previously spoiled by my (anecdotal) success and it wasn’t until the shitshow with my IAR did I begin to appreciate the problems some folks were having.  I have an as near to zero defect function as possible standard and intermittent function was NOT going to cut it, and I don’t do range toys; no worky; no keepy!

Now that FRTs are really catching traction and becoming orders of magnitude more popular, it’s difficult for both vendors and manufacturers to keep up and if/when you need help a call/email to tech support it’s not surprising there’s no answer.  That is by no means an excuse, it’s just a fact…and it sucks.

Current “tech support” is basically (1) FA BCG and (2) H2 or H3 buffer.  That’s really it.  When it comes to tuning gas, suppressors, etc. you’re really on your own and ammo isn’t cheap and chasing problems gets spendy; I definitely feel for ya OP and hope you can find FRT happiness where you’re only problem isn’t it running properly, it’s keeping it fed!

I feel you pain.
So far I only have two of them working.

It seems they are kinda like a lottery. Except if you win this lottery, you get a non working frt.
It seems like they either run perfectly right out of the gate (which seems to be most people) or you are like us and endlessly fighting it trying to get it to run, and most times still failing.

Thanks to those who positively commented in here. Sorry I haven't been in here to respond until now. With work and other family stuff, this took a back seat and probably will continue to do so since I am no farther along with getting my issues resolved. ASD still wants to help me but again I am at their mercy of waiting for email responses. I have provided them several pictures and also did some videos of both of their products and how they are not working as intended. For the ARC Fire they want to send me another one-but waiting to confirmation on that. For their SP5K lower they still haven't said anything. Deez Nutz has also been trying to help but haven't gotten much help from them yet either other than suggestion of trying a different carrier for the arc fire. I have tried 3 different uppers all with different carriers and result is the same. I have provided them the same pics and videos.

I reached out to rare breed to speak to them about their products but got their vm (at least they have a phone number you can call). A person called me the next day but I was at work and couldn't answer the phone. I may try calling that person back today but seeing as it is a Friday before the holiday my odds of gettting them are probably pretty slim.

I bought the following:

One ARC fire V1 kit
One of their completed SP5K lowers with a SS that THEY assembled that just drops onto the firearm.

In regards to the ARC Fire
I am not a gunsmith but I am not a novice. I have built several ars (uppers/lower, etc).
I watched their video on how to install the arc fire and followed it to the letter.
Without an upper on the lower it seems to be working in all modes, but once I place any upper on it (tried 9mm, 556, 300BO) frt mode does not work at all.
It basically acts as it is in semi mode (trigger doesnt reset and hammer doesnt release when cam comes forward while holding down the trigger).
I have made comments to ASD about things I think are not right (tons of side to side play, the cam comes back to the point where it is almost resting on the rear takedown pin, its rearward travel changes depending on what mode it is in, there is some movement on the trigger when the hammer has rearward pressure.
I don't know if these things are normal, or not, but ASD still hasn't even answered these questions.
I gave them videos showing all this stuff.

In regards to their SP5K lower
Again without my SP5K upper on there all modes seem to work as intended.

Summary
I only Bought two of their products and neither work.
O for two isn't exactly great for AS Designs.
I can see if I bought 5 or 6 and none work-yeah maybe its me but thats not the case is it.

So how is it on me exactly?

Maybe before jumping to a conclusion you should obtain all the facts before speculating and commenting negatively. This isn't GD.

I think what is most frustrating ( besides the going back and forth and waiting in email for help) is the fact that I bought this crap over a month ago and have yet to even fire a single round on either.
No point in going to the range if they won't even work as intended dry firing.
That's even more frustrating and makes one just want to say fuck this and sell it all and forget about it.
Never in my life have I bought a firearm accessory and not been able to get it working somewhat by this point.
Maybe that is just the thing.
Maybe this stuff needs more time for R&D and to become more reliable and less finicky.
Since I haven't fired this stuff, who knows- I still may have issues with buffers, gas blocks, suppressors with this stuff, but the point is after over a month I haven't even gotten to that point yet. Maybe that will help convey my frustration with all this stuff.

Don't bother biting on this. It's SHS (Sad Ham Syndrome) as applied to ARFCOM. I've never understood the propensity for people online to respond to another's clear request for help with what amounts to, "Well, I didn't need help, [so there must be something wrong with you]," (the last part being largely implied, or, in this case, explicit).

Regarding your HK lower with SS

I have a couple of RB packs now but before I had the Lee lower setup like yours.  When the gun was assembled it did seem to not reset the trigger and when you released pressure it would reset in frt but not fire.

But when you loaded it and fired it was pure rock and roll. It worked flawlessly.  If that is your type of issue with the mp5k you may want to fire it and see if it works.

I may have missed it, but you're installing the MP5K lower with the SS lever resting forward and positioned between the bolt and the slip trip, correct? If the slip trip is forward of the SS lever, you're not going to get a proper reset.

I actually have the AS designs lower (not the lee sporting lower). That is correct-manually charging and releasing the trigger doesnt fully reset but once I released pressure it would reset.

Like you said when you loaded it it worked. This may be the case for me to as I just found something out. AS designs just made me aware that with live actual fire the bolt travels even farther rearward then one can manually pull the bolt back. According to them this extra distance that gets acheived with live actual firing allows the trigger to fully reset and then it will fire again like it should as long as I keep pressure on the trigger. Now I feel bad as I had no idea about this as I am rather new to the SP5K platform. When dry fire testing it I didn't see it working so I didn't go any farther with it as going to the range to live fire it didn't seem to make sense until now. I plan on now taking it to the range asap (hopefully one day next week) and actually live firing it and see what happens.
Maybe it is ok.

No you didn't miss it as I didn't explain it, but good question. To answer it yes I was always making sure the trigger was reset and the cam was forward, then before re-inserting it into the upper I made sure to pull the bolt and slip trip back as far as I could so when inserting the lower the cam would fall between the bolt and the slip trip. I verified this by looking from the back after the lower was on and confirming the cam was in front of the slip trip before putting the stock back on.

I've struggled to finish my troubleshooting guide on the ARC-Fire, because I simply have not encountered a single problem with it. I think I've installed six at this point, and every one drops in and functions perfectly. I literally have no experience from which to draw to help people get them set up.

As plenty of others have mentioned, FRT's are fickle.

And it may not be the products fault, just the learning curve and maybe some missed info.

My AP5/Lee lower with GMR super safety ran like a mofo but it was also FRTing in semi.
I decided to get a ARCfire.
Well why isnt it working.
Turns out it's not compatible with the Lee.  They say so but I didnt notice and never saw it mentioned in threads.

I had a 2 pos AZR.  I took too much material off before I fully understood how it interacted with the trigger bar.
Ok, I modified it to work with a MBT triggrr.
But wait,  Why is it intermittent.
10oz bolt, Good dead blow, try a hydraulic buffer.   With or without spacer.
Ask here and google.
Oh look, MBT is not compatible with AR9 ramped bolts.

See I dont have much desire to shoot 556.  I reload subsonic 9mm and that is all I want to brrrt.
So AGAIN I didnt realize that my parts werent right.

SO I put in the ARCfire for the AR9.
Sometimes works.  Dead trigger.  Test, test.  Check bolt.
Now firing pin broke.
Go home to order firing pins.

So yeah it can be frustrating.
And costly.

I'll just say that my MP5K with ASD lower fully functions during dry testing using just the charging handle, with an S3G I cut/fitted, and both the V1/V2. So, it's possible, but I wouldn't get my hopes up too much.

As far as I know, that statement about the bolt traveling further back applies to the full-size MP5 -- it can require a buffer piece to shorten the recoil stroke --  but it isn't something that applies with the K size.

With the ASD lower, titanium slip trip, V2, and S3G my MP5K runs smooth as butter. I haven't had a single malfunction, and that's with everything from 1200rpm+ with a 120-degree locking piece to 975rpm suppressed with a 100-degree and about 800rpm with an 80-degree (haven't gotten around to calculating the exact cyclic rate on the 80-degree suppressed/unsuppressed).

I like the cassette ones better than the levers.  Partisan has been decent- if you gave an issue they are proactive in correcting.  I have two RB for MP5 - those run great.  Thinking about the MR556 one, and the AS Designs MP5 one once it is released.

Have you guys considered your gun might be sick vs the FRT?

A little bit of bolt bounce when the hammer strikes means no bang.

I have a theory... FRTs are revealing guns that are running on the edge of reliability.

There are so many people putting FRTs into guns that run fine semi auto but have some issue that prevents them from running well in FRT.

You aren't alone. I immediately checked the carrier when I got my 16" IAR upper in, and the new BCG feels like it has worn gas rings in it straight from the factory. Mine doesn't have the "C" on the carrier (not even faintly) so I'm wondering if ArmsUnlimited swapped our Colt BCGs for some off the shelf junk, or if Colts quality has really dipped that bad.

So another data point on the fickle nature of FRTs, my ARC Fire V2 that gave me problems a couple of weeks ago, but my Cornfire MARC that's been reliable now is showing bolt bounce while running an H3 buffer.  No clue where that came from.  It is in an pistol build host, but that's where it started from, before I switched it over to carbine sized options.  Functions fine in dry fire, but in FRT I only get semi or a dead trigger.  I'll track down a heavier buffer and try again.

I've given up on trying to put a Super Safety into a PSA AR9. Wouldn't it be cool to have a cheap 9mm AR that FRT's? Yeah! The major issue is the high shelf lower. All my other PSA 5.56 guns have low shelves. Why cant PSA standardize across the board? I need to grind more on the lower and don't feel like it.

2nd issue is the non-ramped barrel = FMJ only.  Had I known that, I wouldn't have bought one.

There are tens of thousands of people that have had zero issues getting non RB triggers working, and there are also people that have had issues getting rarebreed RD3 working in AP5s, alot of them actually, not to say they are bad or that it's the fault of that FRT more so it's just how FRTs are. The vast majority of people regardless of the manufacturer, buy a reset trigger device and have zero issues. Selector style active reset products are typically more difficult to get running due to tolerances and compatibility of parts but at the same time they have huge advantages over the drop in FRTs, more leverage, disengaged semi mode, better FCG options, empty FCG pockets and so on.

The issue people have with rarebreed has never been the quality of what they sell or their support, it's the countless lawsuits, which, I think if people had the full picture, nobody would want to support them, but of course people don't actually read any of the lawsuits.

Didn't you have to buy an aftermarket stop for your MP5 selectors so they didn't go past safe?

Yeah, yeah, running is one thing, but "my selector goes 45-60 degrees past safe" is kinda a big deal, at least to me.  Besides Rare Breed's very questionable business practices, that means they are having the same QC and fitment issues everyone is running into.

To be fair, Rare Breed seems pretty responsive at fixing such issues. The MP5 trigger I received a few weeks ago had a modified selector that does not do this and has good detent engagement.

I have two RBs. They are in a 16in Bushy and a 10.5in H&R.

The first one was in the Bushy. It would cycle two or three rounds, then malf.

I replaced the standard buffer and spring with a Geissle 42 and H3, and haven’t had a problem since.

With the 10.5in I didn’t even bother with a regular spring and buffer, I just put in the Geissle. It runs like a raped ape.

It didn't work with the original trigger included with the arc fire kit, and the geissele trigger I bought and sent to deez nutz to cut for me.

Wow-that sucks to hear. I guess AS designs lied to me.

yes. The first lower I was trying to use (RRA) had high shelf. The one I am using now (Spikes Tactical) has low shelf.

Yeah if I can't get this ASD crap to run that will be where I will be headed next.

An update to this.

Like I meantioned a little while back AS designs said they would send me out replacement parts.
I received them after the holiday.
They also included a few of those shims and a picture on where it goes.
Today I replaced the original parts from my arc fire kit with the ones they sent.
I noticed the cam now doesn't fall back as easily and there is a little less play from side to side.
I then tried both my 9mm and 556 uppers on them and tested them dry firing all three modes (safe/semi/frt).
Believe it or not it seems to be actually working now in all three modes with both uppers dry firing.
So the next step is to go to the range.
I plan on going to the range this weekend and will be testing out this lower with both my 9mm and 556 upper.
The lower has a carbine buffer tube, KVP H3 buffer and tubbs 556 flatwire spring installed.
I will be also trying out my sp5k with their lower to see if their claim of it working with ammo over dry fire not working is true or not.
I will post back with my results (probably sunday night or monday).
Wish me luck guys.

Yeah but they said F YOU to previous customers who wanted their selector replaced.  I hooked him up with Datum Machine to get a selector stop after they said no joy.

Rare Breed is a shit company even if I bought a pack for my guns.  Only as they’re the only game in town.

I know I dealt with the devil but I won’t piss  on folks backs and tell them it’s raining.

If I can get two of the ASD packs I’ll sell this one for a loss.

Ironic that I have 2 PSA AR9’s, one 8” and one 16” and they both have low shelf lowers. I also have a couple of PSA ar15 lowers and they are high shelf.  I was hoping to try an arc fire in the 8”. If it doesn’t work I may try a partisan.  I guy I shoot with got a new PSA complete AR15 lower in just yesterday and it was high shelf.
