The big bad BUIS FAQ (Page 1 updated on 8/4/2006) (Page 5 of 9)
I believe that you have to use an ARMS BUIS with a sir unless you want to take a dremel to the rail. I have a sir and it really pisses me off because I don't really like the ARMS sights. This has prompted me to design a new BUIS that will fit behind a sir rail. I have the plans on my computer and in printouts on my desk waiting to be machined, just in time for ARMS to come out with a new rail that does not raise the flattop. Hell, I might machine it anyways to have a prototype because it has some features that I have not seen on any other sight. Maybe ARMS will buy the plans |
| What folding front sight options are available for a 20" AR15 using a KAC Long FF RAS, KAC 200-600m flip-up rear BUIS, and a YHM-9836A railed gas block? This is, assuming the front BUIS is to be mounted on the gas block for the alignment. |
| The only BUIS I've ever seen (in well over a year in A-stan) on an A4 is the MATECH. For that matter, it's the only one I've even seen issued on anything. I have seen a few #40s used by contractors and feds, but USGI, even the various SF units, is strictly MATCEH. |

I've gone over all the nine pages of this thread and have only seen the Midwest Industries site mentioned one time and nobody ever answered his question. Soooo I'll ask it again. Does anyone have any experience with this buis? Quality maybe and I would really like to know the collapsed height. Great thread though. Elvis |
Could you clarify "not even notice?" Do you mean that the Larue is unobtrusive, only ocupies the lower XX% of the EOTech view or that you literally don't see it at all. |
No. They came up with a fix for that. I just bought and mounted two Troy BUIS yesterday. They are sitting pretty. |
Never attribute to malice that which can be ascribed to sheer stupidity.
Is there a way to ensure that you wont be shipped old stock(canted ones) from an online vendor, ie model number change? What do you think of the SKD modded version(First paragraph for mod info)? |

Anybody have a detailed review of the Armalite Alostyr flip-up front sight? John 6.5 Grendel: Hits with Twice the Lead of 5.56; Shoots Flatter Than 7.62 |
| Is there an a Flip Up BUIS that would be an absolute co-witness with an EOTech? Preferably one with both windage and elevation adjustments? I'm new to ARs, and I'm trying to read and search as much as I can by myself. The only one I found that would provide absolute co-witness is MATECH BUIS, and I'm having trouble locating one. Any info on this is greatly appreciated. |

I dont believe anyone makes a FSB that attaches to handguards. I'm assuming you mean the stock plastic ones and not a railed system. hile As far as a windage correctable FSB I dont see the point. If you where to need that kind of gross adjustment I would think that your barrel is not properly aligned to your upper reciever. |
It is manufactured by NitroVo. It is painted aluminum. It is adjustable for wind and elev. It springs into the up pos but does not lock. You push it down and a small catch holds it down. It is an airsoft sight. it is on all the major sites along with numerous knockoffs (like the ARMS 40). I used mine for a while and had no problems with it. I did have to remove the front site post (not a standard A2 post) and take a little off to get it to cowit with a ARMS 40 knockoff. I think I paid about $45.00 for it. I got rid of it because it didnt lock in the up pos. and I got beat up at the range when mistaken for a mall ninja. |

i have an ACOG TA31F and I would like the BUIS to be mounted also, don’t want to tote something extra around If I don’t have to. Looking at the ACOG mounted on my M4 It appears that the BUIS will have to fold down low enough to actually fit under the ACOG. I have followed this thread and several others and can’t find the answer. Among the various BUIS covered here which has a low enough profile to use with an ACOG? i would love to see a pic of an ACOG and BUIS mounted if someone has one. |

Excellent summary. Newbie question: My AR is a flattop with removable carry handle and a fixed front sight. I've mounted the EOTech holosight on the rail and now want to add a backup rear sight. Which accessory rear sights (all? some?) will align correctly with the stock front sight? Thanks for any help. |

The following thread should help, although I noticed that QUIB's excellent pics that began it are no longer uploaded. ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=280593 As for fit, I believe any of the BUIS' you mentioned combined with an EOTech 512 will work just fine. I have a MaTech/EOTech duo and it even works with fat M4 handguards. |

Hey Guys...great thread. Couple of Questions for you Guru's out there like Strick, need rear BUIS for Eotech 512 on Colt 6920. 1. What is "Same Plane Aperture", like on ARMS #40 L SP? It appears that the large aperture stay fixed and the small aperture folds up behind it, maybe? 2. I didn't notice an elevation adjust on the ARMS #40 L SP or Troy flip-up rear, whats the deal? Doesn't look like it from pictures. how do you adjust for elevation? There don't seem to be many flip-up rear sights with wind and elevation adjusts. |
Can anyone identify the front sight on John Krieger's carbine pictured HERE?

Is it ok to answer a question two months later? ![]() Sorry for the delay. I don't get over here as often as I would like to. As I understand it, Same Plane aps are built with the center of each ap is an equal height. on the non-same plane aps, the small ap is a little higher than the large ap. It is not really a big deal as the large ap is for CQB anyway. Rear sights (for the most part) are not adjustable for elevation because you probably would never use it. You just zero at 50 yards with the front sight and hold over or under if you need to. As a "back up" sight, they do not expect you to use it unless your primary optic fails. If this happens it is doubtful you would be in a situation where you would need to dial for an elevation change. Thanks, Rob aka strick909 aka TalonArms_R |

So far, everything points to "fetish," or maybe it just goes to differentiate between the practical shooters, and the theoretical shooters. Did anybody catch my reference to "real life?" As I said, if you're a real high-speed-low-drag troop, both of you can disregard. But for the rest of us, consider this. If you have an Aimpoint or Eotech (or equivalent), have you ever actually looked through it? Has it occurred to you that, even without the pretty red dot, at anything less than about 100 yards, you could center it up on your front sight and hit a man-sized target about ten times out of ten? THAT is your BUIS. If the things would really be useless without the magical red dot, people at the sharp end wouldn't rely on them - you just can't rely on technology to be there when Murphy comes calling. If it's not up and ready, when you need it, best not factor it in too heavily. It is my contention that, in general, if you have time to stop and flip the lever on your multiple-hundred-dollar A.R.M.S. or GGG optical mount system, remove it (and stow it, you know you're not going to throw it away, you spent hundreds on it) and flip up your multiple-hundred-dollar BUIS, you have time to ditch the optic and mount your carry handle. If you don't have time for that, you will be shooting with whatever you have, and if the action is that close you could probably hit a man at CQB range with no sights if you keep your cool. Now, I expect the gadget-dependent to flame this, but I think the weight of opinion here would back me in saying that skill trumps gadgetry every time, push come to shove. I challenge you to go to the range and see how many times you can center-punch a man-sized target at < 50 yds. with your optic sight turned off. You might be surprised at how well you do without the red dot. Put the front sight on the target, center it up in your inert Aimpoint or Eotech, and shoot - you'll probably do well enough to take down a bad guy in a real close-quarters shooting situation. If you're unfortunate enought to be up close and personal, you aren't going to have time for carefully aimed shots, anyway. In just about any real life situation, if you're lucky enough to even get to your AR, you're going to be operating a rifle with 30 round mags against some punk with at most a 15 round 9mm. You should be able to manage the situation, and if you can't, BUIS aren't your main problem. If you are far enough away to have time to break contact long enough to mess with flipping up back up sights, you have time to either remove the optic and switch to the A2 carry handle that came with your rifle, or disengage and run away. If you can't run away, then you are in a fortified situation and either have called the cops, or you should have known that the zombies were up and about and planned accordingly. I just think that the only people who really need BUIS are already in Afghanistan or Iraq, and those are the people I specifically exempted from my comments. |
