Got tired of looking through mini RECCE and the SBR threads for one of the least common barrel sizes (currently).
Post'em if you got'em, I need some inspiration. Maybe we can turn this into an official 12.5 thread! ETA: Rail and barrel specs would be great |

That was when new. It’s been tweaked a bit, but has become my favorite rifle. I have a KINO as well. I love 12.5s |

My 12.5 built on a MEGA lower and a complete BCM upper.

They're probably the most underrated handguards out there. Cheaper and considerably lighter than the BCM/Geissele rails. I have this one (11.5"), a 7" and a 15" Combat LW. |

Nice builds guys! I like them all!

Their drop-in rails are really light and nice too. |

^Still g2g in my book since it's a 12.5 barrel
To all; Before I placed my order for my 12.5 BA I was researching the gas port size and came across this awesome spread sheet someone made and shared AR-15 5.56/.223 Gas Port Size It has all the 12.5" barrels from known brands, at least that I can think of. |

I use .055 with a K can. .073 is for unsuppressed and .082 for really dirty or crappy ammo. |

Does gas block journal profile affect port size?
Ie. .750 vs .625? |

They’re going to be more than MSRP though. I’ve been stocking up on older URX’s since the 4 came out. I’m not a fan, and the 10.75” URX 3.1 is the pinnacle of AR rails in my opinion. I have URX 3.1 13.5", it came on a 16" AAC upper. I didn't even know what it was until I decided to change the barrel, now I know a lot and have a wrench. The barrel nut is an unusual setup. This was my time first changing a barrel to. What makes this $300 rail better (in your opinion) than the popular ones that are $150. Not being a dick, I just wonder. Most of my AR stuff is mid tier at best. |

I have a couple and while I like them I don't really agree that they are the pinnacle of AR development. The mounting system seems very robust but I'm not convinced it's really any stronger than something with a massive barrel nut like a geissele. Perhaps it achieves something similar with a lower weight than having a big chunk of metal there. I like the mounting system and think it's pretty innovative overall though. In terms of strength it does have a bit more of the I beam profile of quad rails which probably helps vs a tube style, but the fact that it's a 2 piece likely negates any of that benefit. If you have the bottom half removed on a 13.5" you can definitely flex the top portion pretty easily if you squeeze tightly in the horizontal direction. I guess this shouldn't be a surprise really given that half the support is removed. It does seem really stiff in the vertical direction. Once the lower half is bolted up with a few bolts it's very solid. Ergonomically I don't really like it as much for a c clamp grip as some other modern rails but that's all preference. I don't own other KAC stuff but I've always been drawn to their looks and the 3.1 is no exception. It's a quality piece that is a solid choice but if you are going for bang for the buck there are better options IMO, at least at full MSRP. I got mine way below retail price... |

Thanks for the info.
I didn't know why the AAC upper listed for $900, now I know it came with a $300 rail. I got it for $600, it is very nice. |
