Came into this little bugger today. What do you make of it? Floor plate is plastic. Black old style follower.

What’s the capacity?

Looks like a cut down USGI mag with a home-made or small shop base plate.

Might be a limiter. How many does the mag hold?

Well, that's different.  Sure it's USGI or just aluminum?  How many rounds, and what caliber?

Not USGI for sure.
Looks like those mags sold by Bushmaster during the AWB

The mag holds 20 rounds.

It is most definitely a USGI preban 30rd body that has been cut down. The floor plate doesn't look like a home brew job.

here is the floor plate removed...

i wasn't ready for the pins to be self sprung and unfortunately one spring and pin went flying into the corner of my office. may be difficult to find them again

Surprisingly I found the parts!

Bottom of the mag you can see it has been finished. And the chopped spring is coated too.

Ok, lemme see what we've got:

Commercially cut down 30 round curved mag to 20 rounds, commercially injected molded floorplate w/ non-standard mount to fit to a cut 30 round mag.  Made in an era where 20 round mags were plentiful and easily available; the only possible advantage to the curved 20 round would've been the curve, but produced before the era of self-leveling followers, so very little advantage.

Or (cynic hat on):

Back-room shyster operation selling "pre-ban" 20 round mags by buying cheap post-ban LE only 30 rounders, chopping them to 20s and thus cutting off the LE/Gov't only bullshit.  Sold in an era when 20 rounders commanded a high price, and no one complained there weren't makers' marks or they'd never seen that floorplate before.  Take only cash, leave no trace.

The floor plate is stamped/molded with AH-0346 on the inside.  The finish on the mag is light and shiny, identical to what came on a Simmonds/Universal USGI 20rd mag.

Looks similar to those cut down alexander grendel mag floor plates.

Almost looks like a postban mag someone took apart and put back together with sight base springs and detents. I have no idea what it is really made for or why.

Bizzare.  Why would anyone go to all that trouble?  Looks like a nice chop job though....All the disadvantages of a 30 rd mag that holds only 20 rds.  I never understood the “curved” 20 rd magazine.

I don’t know of any GOVT/LE USE ONLY ban-era mags that had the marking near the bottom where they would be cut off by this mod. They were either up by the mag catch hole (Okay/Colt) or ran the length of the side of the magazine (Center).

Quoted:  What the heck is that? Can’t quite read the manufacturer name and the link says the listing wasn’t found. That’s not a GI mag.

Random pic from the internet, and the link the search engine associated w/ it.  But it does appear as if there were some 30 round aluminum mags that had their anti-Constitutional markings in a rather convenient location.
