Where do you guys store your ammo in your home? I have two large safes, one has all my firearms and the other has all my ammo, parts and other miscellaneous stuff. I'd like to get rid of one of my safes to have more room but I have no idea where I would put all my ammo and parts. So just curious where others typical keep their ammo if not in a safe.

3 snack size ziploc bags
JK. 50 cal anmo cans with desiccant packs in them. They stack easy and I can easily move them around. |
|
I'm using 50 cal ammo cans with locking kit and silica pads to deal with condensation / humidity.
Custom build shelving system in the basement for the majority of ammo and a few cans distributed for quick access. |
|
Metal cabinet with lock and hardware added.
Old 4 section refurbished school locker. Ammo cans. |

View Quote I use 2 of these. Ammo cans and ammo has been fine for decades. |

I try to stack it up in rows sorted by caliber in the basement on the concrete floor.
No real need for ammo cans or desiccant in my opinion. I have some ammo in cans but also have several thousand rounds still in the cardboard cases in their individual boxes. Been there 15 years still looks new. |

I'm single so it all sits in my bedroom in various places. Not enough though.

In a big pile on the basement floor, sorted by caliber. Some of it is in ammo cans, some in the original boxes/cases. It doesn't appear to be going bad.

On homemade wooden shelves and a metal shelving unit. Some are stored loose in .30 cans, full as a case, or in factory packaging depending on how much I bought at the time.

On wooden shelves in ammo cans under the stairs leading to the basement.

All of mine is in the 20 round box it came in, sitting in my sock drawer

It'll be a complete 180 because it'll be legal to get weed in a store but ammo will be FTF discreet transactions. |

I have about 20 Walmart poly ammo cans filled with 5k of 9mm still sealed (for resale if needed)

Been storing it in the basement for the last 30 years or so, in what ever it came in. Sealed cans, sealed wooden cases, cardboard boxes. About 70 degrees F and 17% humidity when I checked earlier today.

View Quote If there is any possible chance of flooding in the basement, I'd highly recommend at least putting it on a pallet. I've had issues in a couple houses with occasional water coming up through the floor drain. |

I use these for storing my ammo.

Why do people use gun safes to store ammo?
Serious question? They are not fireproof, most can bolt to the floor so they are not waterproof, expensive, and now you have one more pass code or key to remember or not loose. Are you worried about someone stealing it? |

LOL. Closets, shelves, cabinets, floors. Pretty much everywhere.

It's ammo, it doesn't go bad, rarely cares how it's stored, and goes bang every time. Just dump what you've got into ammo cans and stick someplace you've got free space.

What’s ammo?
Seriously, ammo doesn’t matter how it’s stored as long as you keep it dry. The last place I would store it would be my gun safe with my guns. Just me. |

Long-term in cans with desiccant, greased seals lined with heavy trash bags. Short term is repurposed containers, lots of plastic jars. I really like empty 8lb powder jugs for bulk stuff too or 1lbers for smaller lots. Hell, I've got a 5 gallon pail of random stuff, ziploc bag to separate lots and toss in the pail.
Indoors, climate contolled it doesn't much matter. |

Quoted: Mtm 30 cal ammo crates on the basement floor. 30 cal cause 50 cal metal cans are heavier and I move a lot. https://www.ammoland.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/MTM-AC4C-Ammo-Crate-4-Can-Deal-600x378.jpg Water tight, air tight, great rubber gasket seal. Quoted: I've got some older cans I've never used; should the seals be conditioned or reconditioned with something? I'm guessing a real 'grease' isn't the best thing to do. Silicone or white lithium, a small pea sized bead is enough to smear a thin layer over the entire seal. Cans are sealed so well after going through a season that they have a nice vacuum suction noise when opened. |

I suspected that fully loaded the plastic would deform enough to prevent an airtight seal. Thanks, you saved me some money. |
