To make people like wayfaerer320 happy, I have appropriately renamed the thread.

I have also requested this thread be locked.

To AZ; as I tried to tell you/warn you yesterday, I don't think anybody is shitting on your rifle.  It's a sweet SBR, for sure!  I tried to steer you toward the SBR subforum to show that baby off!

If you just want to look the part without doing the work, then find a damn airsoft forum. I'll spec my rifles the way I want. Don't like it, the you can hit the Report button, hit the Ignore button, or just MYOB.

Why should this thread be any different than the BLK II thread?

I don't know why we just couldn't have a mod clamp down on all the shenanigans and clean up all the aberrant posts...it's been done before.

Oddly enough, the same 2 or 3 posters are stirring up the same shit in the M4A1 SOPMOD Block II Clone Picture Thread.

Yeah, thanks dude.     I'll admit that some of the posts here of simply SBR's were a little annoying, but I guess some peoples panties get in a bunch over those minor annoyances.  I think it goes with the territory in a clone thread. I think it does help keep the discussion going as to what is or isn't a "clone".  Oh well.

Wow, 473 pages ruined by a couple clone nazis. It even makes me reconsider finishing my mk18 build and just going a completely different route at this point. I have no desire to get involved in this pissing match of a thread.

If anyone ruined this thread it certainly wasn't me.

What ruined it was the people deviating from clones (which was in the thread title name btw) and instead just posting generic SBRs that have little in common with issued guns.

But again, I was under the impression that this was originally a clone thread - had I known it wasn't, I wouldn't have said anything at all.

If you're going to blame me, then blame the others who told people their generic SBRs were Mk18 clones because they "said so."

What would it take to get the high-ups to create a Clone subforum?

Yeah, I know there's relatively few iterations of military clone rifles, but it may be a safe haven where we can discuss clones without the ignorant dropping by and inadvertently causing dog piles.  There's an entire subforum dedicated to A2s, and they're pretty damn easy to figure out what makes one up.

Just a thought.

The problem is that there is more arguing then information.

When someone post something inappropriate, instead of a single post explaining why it is inappropriate we get a page or two of bickering.

We have had people who are issued CQBRs run off this thread.

What is worse for the thread some incorrect pictures or pages of arguing?

This started with the MK12 thread.  When someone posted a rifle that would be correct but with a URX rail instead of a M4 FF rail, people were fine with it, but when someone posted a rifle with a YHM rail, we would get several people running them off the thread.  Then the purists got nutty.

Not every rifle is going to be an exact clone.  So, is it really worth spending pages arguing about it?

Lancelot, this thread has gone nuts.  Please lock it.

Since I was using a Surefire can before SOCOM, does that mean the SEALs are cloning my gun?

Well this escalated quickly...

Sheesh... stay off the computer for one weekend...

I think what we need to do first is come to a consensus, however rough and "working" of what is or is not a "clone."

I think the majority of the people in all these threads are generally in agreement, but it gets a little hard to write a specific "definition" of a clone, given the high amount incidence of individual variation and changes in equipment - it's kind of like the definition of pornography... you know what it is when you see it, but it's a little bit hard to define with excluding legitimate art, but without having it be taken advantage of.

Agreed.

I didn't mind people posting pics of their progress on the road to a complete clone.  After all it would be dull if no one could post unless they were 100% correct.  Plus we're all excited about slowly but surely accumulating all of the hard to find parts.

But playing police officer of a thread that isn't theirs, and arguing over what's "more correct" is retarded.

Awesome thread is now dildos.

May I respectfully second the idea of returning this thread to a MK18 / CQBR thread?

This thread has been an amazing resource in my building my Mod 0. This thread almost transcends "cool gun discussion" and has become essentially an historic reference for people like me interested in building an as-accurate-as-possible MK18 / CQBR clone. I have completed my build and I could have NEVER done it without this thread. I'm now going to give my build to my son and I have a lot of sweat equity into it because I used this thread to make it "correct".  I could have built him a random SBR but I chose to do something that would be more meaningful and this thread was key.

I come here ever day to check out the new photos and discussion and I'm not "offended" when someone posts a pic of a non-clone weapon here... in fact it makes me even prouder of my "correct" clone.

If there are a couple of internet bullies on here that are so small-minded and easily offended that they're jumping on people for posting something that isn't to their liking then how about we just kick them out rather than destroy an important reference on weapon as important to our generation as the MK18 / CQBR.

Please, consider restoring this back to a clone thread on MK18 / CQBRish weapons and let's just remove problem posters as they arrive.

I vote to keep it open as well.

I love all the little nuances that make the Mk18/CQBR what it is. The closest I have is just a DD upper with a 231 and a Scout on it, but I love seeing the info and inspiration for our builds.

For the record, in my recent posts I never said they had to be "exact" (my God dude) and if you actually read my posts I did in fact go into great detail about my own gun and how I had a color filled lower (obviously mine isn't perfect either), but aside from a color fill, it looks like a CQBR Block II.

All I did was post some comments about someone's rifle (and I wasn't the only one either) and somehow I am responsible for ruining things?

And we're talking about a lower with a color filled logo and a gun that looks nothing at all like an issued rifle.

3 pics of mine below followed by pics of the rifle I commented about not being "close enough" - keyword "close" - not "exact"

Gun I commented about:
