Yep.
If we're really gonna start knocking people for using DD factory branded "MK18" uppers then this thread is gonna get even more fucked really quick. As already mentioned, a factory DD upper is a great way to start a CQBR. I'd even argue the best way to start a CQBR outside of those ugly laser engravings - though that's why I opt to have DD custom build my uppers - so I avoid the laser engravings. You aren't going to get a better 10.3" barrel anywhere, and you get the correct gas block and handguard from the factory as well. It's not a Colt receiver, but whatever...it's still a standard milspec receiver. With some paint and a flash hider swap, a DD "MK18" upper looks as clone as anything available...yet its quality is better than most available. |

Nobody is putting down anyone's build. They're all awesome guns. But if you're going to build an SBR that doesn't resemble an issued Mk18 Mod 0 or CQBR Block II then it shouldn't belong here. Case in point here below - awesome SBR and yes it's a Daniel Defense "MK18" - but if simply using the manufacturer's product name implies that it's a clone of an issued Mk18 Mod 0 or CQBR Block II, then I guess I wasted my money on the correct issued parts like the Knights front taupe BUIS, the M3X, the dual pressure switch, and the SU-231. If building a gun like the below passes as an issued Mk18 Mod 0 or CQBR Block II clone, then I'm confused as to why we have an SBR picture thread and this thread? Perhaps we should just combine the two? NOTE: Again, as I've stated numerous times, nobody is shitting on anyone's builds - for the record, the below build is a fucking sick SBR, but it's not a clone of any issued CQBR Block II I've ever seen. That's all this is about. |

is this a Mk18? or is this posted in the wrong spot as well, damn near similar to mine, and yet at leas mine has the proper rail. ( not to knock this guy, its a beautiful rifle) |

The point that I think you're missing is that we're not Nazis (because obviously my Pirate lower is not spec), but at least make the effort to make it look more like an issued gun instead of your own personal interpretation of it. I have a DD "MK18" upper like you do - but do you see how I at least dressed it up like an issued CQBR Block II? The same goes for my BCM Block II upper - it's got "BCM" in bright ass white on the upper and BCG - yeah, that's not something that looks issued, but it's small potatoes compared to the overall appearance of the gun, which I'd say resembles an issued gun. |

The military gives you certain things to use. Hence the importance placed on the accessories. It's not difficult to grasp. The purpose behind this thread is aesthetic, hence the importance of aesthetics to the people here. This isn't a SBR picture thread, it's a picture thread for rifle that are as close as possible, within reason, to actual rifles. I'm sorry for coming off as a dick, but you're in the wrong here, man. | Wayne, I'd have to disagree, there's a pretty well set standard on what the "Mk.18 club" considers to be "within reason" for each particular variation of the rifle. This thread strikes me as one of those situations where "read more, post less" is a very useful mantra. I've been following this thread since it began, though, I guess I can see where someone who just jumped in may have a hard time realizing that there's an established standard. |

The usual suspects in this thread are getting frustrated because this affair happens every week or two...some guy posts a non-acceptable rifle, gets indignant when called on it, two page argument, etc. Subjective! No. Using a lower that is an exact blue print of an issued Colt lower (like a CMMG, Stag, Double Star, RRA, BCM, DPMS, Del-Ton, LMT, Noveske, etc) (minus the roll-marks and the lack of full-auto) - THAT is "within reason." They may not be the real deal lower, but given that they are exactly the same dimensions, they are within reason for a clone - why? Because that's literally as close as we can get. Using a magpul CTR or a magpul pistol grip - that is "within reason" because though they're not issued, they've been spotted in the field. Aimpoints - also not issued, but evidence exists of them being used in the field - I'd consider that "within reason." Putting a stock, pistol grip, BUIS, trigger guard, and/or other accessories that have not only never been seen or used on an issued gun, let alone actually part of the Block II program - that is NOT within reason. Your DD SBR is a slick gun, but this is not "within reason" - put a SOPMOD stock on (hell, even a magpul CTR), swap the pistol grip for an issued one - then you're "within reason." Again, another example below - great gun, but not "within reason." Again, my pirate lower isn't spec, but aside from the markings it's an exact copy of a Colt lower with straight issued trigger guard, A2 grip, and SOPMOD stock. The rest of my clone (aside from the DD flash hider which I'm going to replace) has Block II accessories. How many Block II accessories are on either of the above guns? A 10.3" barrel and a DD RIS II doesn't make it "within reason." There's a little more to it. |

Some in this forum seem to think they are SMEs and think that just because they have the correct components (even though they don't), that that gives them the reason to shit on other peoples rifles and posts and that makes them just as bad ass as the people who use these rifles for real. It doesn't. Plain and simple. Dressing up your rifles to look the part doesn't make you the real thing, esp if you don't even use the high dollar optics because you don't want them to lose their value. If you just want to look the part without doing the work, then find a damn airsoft forum. I'll spec my rifles the way I want. Don't like it, the you can hit the Report button, hit the Ignore button, or just MYOB. Cloners sidetrack these threads just as much, if not more, than others jerking each other off all time, yet they don't ever add anything new to the conversation or discussion. |

Well then... Let's just do away with all the clone threads since none of them are "real". Slap that puppy together any way you want but don't post a Tungsten Gray Cerakoted MK18 upper with DD fixed BUIS in a clone thread unless you accompany it with a pic of one in the wild. Note: Its kind of funny b/c the pic that stirred all of this up is just a set of BUIS and a color away from "accepted". Lot of wrong in that pic but just enough of the right parts keeps everything from blowing up. Once you have a good feel for how this thread flows, its fun to discover new gear coming into theatre which in turn affords the cloners with a greater array of options they can run. For example, T1s and AFGs are now OK since there have been multiple pics posted of them in the wild. Also, the EXPS3-0 (SU-231A) is now accepted here. The list goes on and on... BUT YOU BETTER KNOW THE LIST. |

Here's the deal.........this is a bigazzed thread. And it isn't even the first part I don't think. I've spent all my time in the RETRO forum, until a few weeks ago. I had finished my 607 build and THOUGHT I was going to do one of the xm177's. I've got most of the parts for one. Then, I stroll into this forum and see this thread, and I thought.........man, I have to build one of those. The thing is........what IS one of those, so I start researching, and damn.......it's confusing. From the Mod 0 to the Mod1, to the CQBR........and I start looking at all the builds..........and I got more confused. I suppose my pics that I posted the other day will one day confuse someone. I did try to set the record straight on my ongoing build........stating which parts I need to replace, etc. I will agree that posting pics of incorrect builds only confuse those of us coming here trying to figure out what we need for an authentic build.
There are components that are obvious.....lower receivers......not too many guys going to have the "real deal"......but I plan on doing an80%'er so that I can make it as correct as I can. (just need to figure out what that is. I THINK it needs to be an M4A1 marked by Colt Defense Upper receivers....should be Colt A4....evidently others get a pass though. LMT Sopmod is what I plan....knowing there are one or two other acceptable All the smaller stuff is where things get all blurry......throw in "if it's been seen in the wild, it's OK" and things really get confusing. Sitting here typing/thinking and maybe what I've said is BS because I am constantly mixing up true MK18's and all the variants. I want to build something authentic, and looking at incorrect builds (incorrect as far as an accurate clone) doesn't help. RANT OFF |

I don't think anybody is saying there's anything wrong with using whatever parts you want on your gun, just asking that you not use this thread as a dump for pictures that aren't related to the subject matter, which is rifles that have been seen in the field.
I guess I just don't understand why people are so determined to post their pictures here, when they aren't supposed to be here. |

This stems in large part from the airsoft world and gun manufacturers like Daniel Defense who have bastardized the true military designations for weapons (including the Mk12).

So if your a purist that can't handle that, stay out of this thread. I found when I started shooting my little carbines that I preferred have an ACOG for the benefits of target recognition and how easy it made 500m shooting. https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/884x654q90/244/dsci0002gn5.jpg Then I found I didn't like shooting unsuppressed, so I did some research and picked up a Surefire can. For a long time AAC fans kept telling me I made the wrong choice and that the military would be switching to AAC cans. Well AAC fans, you were wrong. https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/689x258q90/185/dsci00025fh7.jpg AAC makes some nice cans, but for my purposes Surefire is the better choice. It looks like SOCOM felt the same way. Nobody needs to have jack shit - it's just fun to build guns that resemble issued service rifles. Fun - that's all this is. But, it's your thread and I respect that - if this isn't a clone specific thread then so be it, but up until now I wrongly assumed it was a clone thread. Apologies.

I thought this was a clone/variant thread with the variants being: If you can find a pic of a part or piece of add-on gear/equipment being used in the field, it is "kosher". Variant examples: Grips (Magpul, Ergo, TangoDown, etc.) Optics (Trijicon Accupoints and ACOGs, Aimpoint T1s, non SU-231 Eotechs, etc.) Sling adapters (DD, Magpul, etc.) Stocks (CTR, VLTOR, etc.) Weapon Lights (various Surefire models) Trigger Guards (Magpul, KAC, etc.) Magazines (Magpul) Foregrips (Magpul AFG) Endplates - (Magpul ASAP) Trigger - (Geissele SSA as it is the closest thing to a SSF) Acceptable deviations from genuine: Lower - Any mil-spec forged semi-auto that follows the Colt lines/blueprint Barrel - Any non-stainless govt. profile 10.3"/10.5" (Daniel Defense for example) Stock - B5 Systems and LMT Enhanced SOPMOD models with integrated QDs This list is incomplete but I am trying to paint a picture of the general direction I thought this thread was going. If the OP does not want his thread to follow this course, I can respect that. I would however, like to be part of a thread that follows the spirit of what I posted above. Sorry OP. |

So are we taking over this thread then? ...Because, in essence, we just did. EDIT: To me, the fun of this thread lies in the difficulty in attaining all of these parts. It has taken me close to two years to get where I am and if it were not challenging, I would have lost interest a long time ago. Anyone can do a Form 1 and slap a MK18 upper onto a lower. What set this thread apart was the level of commitment you had to maintain in order to get your build up to par. |

So, if you have a Mk18 Mod 0 or CQBR Block II, you can post it here, but if you also have an SBR that looks nothing at all like an issued gun, you can also post it here. So really, this thread has become an AR-15 SBR and/or Mk18 Mod 0/CQBR clone thread.

It was fun, challenging, albeit frustrating at times locating some of these parts. I found myself not reading enough, and buying the wrong thing more than once, because I did not read here thoroughly enough Oh well, those wrong part just spawned another rifle.
I expect if some of the members had not been so strict in this thread, I would have saved thousands
Anyhow, it was the spirit of it all that was fun, even though I had to eat shit often
So close to my Form 1, don't let it end now! |

When did anyone say that DD receivers were a problem? Clearly, you missed the point of my most recent posts. I posted that icon because you were basically shitting on people's comments trying to defend actual clone builds versus guns that don't even look like an issued gun. I also have a DD receiver - in fact my entire upper is factory DD, but I made the effort to complete the package by adding actual Block II shit. Either you didn't read my posts or you didn't read my posts - I'm not sure how you got "DD receivers are shit" out of what I said...
|
|
I've read all your recent posts. I took your simple quote of my last comment as DD receivers, yes, the horror.
If that's not the case, I apologize. My DD CQBRs have milspec receivers, 10.3" barrels, the correct gas blocks, correct handguards (of course), SOPMOD stocks, TD VFGs, KAC BUIS including 99051 fronts (black and taupe fronts - as I have both a black and FDE CQBR), SureFire mini scout lights and Aimpoint T1s. All of which have in some variation been spotted in the wild. My trigger guards, safeties, light mounts and muzzle device/can choices may not be kosher, but the whole packages should suffice for a CQBR.
