What spring do you prefer with the light weight carriers?

I PREFER After examining it, I thought I’d seen the exact design before, I’m damn sure it’s manufactured by F1 for Brownells.

F1 lists theirs at $325.00, OVER $200.00 higher than the Brownells unit!

They do look damn near identical except for the finish, at least in the pics you posted.

The Brownell's carriers are made by Toolcraft. They are the same carriers that Cryptic Coating uses as well.

I have one of these but it doesn’t open my strike industries dust cover. My JP LMOS BCG does. Anyone else have experience with this carrier and other dust covers?

Your bolt looks good.

Mine has “MPI” in that Times sarif font that is usually printed on all things Chinesium.

Not saying that it is Chinese made; Toolcraft website shows bolts with the same font as mine.

They aren’t J.P. Enterprises LMOS QPQ carriers (my favorite), BUT IMHO they’re a steal at the current price!

@Tigwelder1971

@JWC3G

The staking appears fine.

The Bolt is clearly marked MPI & 9310

The extractor appears to be a casting, I will be replacing the extractor spring with a Colt Copper colored unit.

I checked them on the two AR’s I have them in...

One has a Rock River 9mm Upper drilled for a gas tube with a Rock River dust cover door, it opens it every time.

The other has an Aero non-Forward Assist upper with a Rock River dust cover door, it opens it every time.

Nice looking kit. Nice pics also.

The marking on the extractor might be a manufactures mark. It is similar to the one in the bolt from this thread. https://www.ar15.com/forums/AR-15/ToolCraft-BCG-Review/118-748596/

Is the firing pin finish scared up from something on the nitrde BCG?

This firing pin?

That was the second PRI BCG with that wear on the firing pin (PRI replaced the first one).

I’ve been at a loss with that one; never seen that wear on any other BCG. I assume is a difference in hardness. Hasn’t  caused any issues.

Just wanted to make sure it was not just the lighting in the pic making it look different.

Thank you! Must just be the strike industries cover then.

Telling from the sharp skeltonized cut right from the back of gas key area, the brownells lightweight carriers don't fill the whole ejection port which allows dirt and mud to enter the action and even foul the FCG.

With the carrier in place, you'll see a access hole distal from the muzzle end on the superior most aspect.

Good eye, doc.

I don’t think it will be much of a problem.

Fwiw, the Alexander Arms and (one piece) Adams Arms lightweight carriers fill the entire ejection port.

The budget friendly, nitride lightweight carrier from KM tactical ($55) looks similar to the brownells one but with more material to cover the hole as the two mentioned above. I have one on order to test fit.

Aim Surplus lightweight carriers are cut to short to produce the same gap.

With test fit, the KM tactical leaves a gap. Funny enough, the carrier was advertised with a staked key in place but I received the key with screws to the side. Atleast fast shipping.
