Reliable & Well-Priced 77gr OTM Training Ammo?

I've searched and read a ton of threads but I'm looking for a more specific answer.

I'd like to stock up on 77gr OTM ammo for higher volume shooting at the range and not quite as concerned with extreme precision or extreme FPS consistency.

I'm just looking for the best option for reliable ammo that doesn't blow primers or has regular failures.

I have about 500 rounds of aac 77 otm down the tube without failure yet.

But I know people that have. I hope PSA can reign the quality in a little bit. Everyone wants mk262 for 10.99

Thanks for the feedback.

I'd really love to give AAC a try - PSA seems like they're always trying to make sure they're delivering a good product but I've had some major ammo failures (with other brands, not AAC/PSA) in the past that make me hesitant.

I've seen a lot of complaints about IMI as well.

Why? One of the primary benefits of 77gr is precision. If you don't need that, why waste the money? Train with 55gr and and reserve 77gr for whatever is "real" to you.... competition, classes, etc.

And to answer your actual question, Defender Ammo had their 77gr reman for $490/case last week. 49cpr. That's nearly pre-covid pricing.

I'm not saying that I want to buy 4 MOA 77gr - there's still inherent performance with a 77 OTM round. I'm just OK with running something more affordable than my BHA that isn't quite as good.

Privi has a 75gr.
There are also 75gr Hornady OTM bullets loaded by many manufacturers.
Again AAC has their own 77gr OTM, and also a load with Hornadys 75gr.

The Privi used to be decently cheap, but doesnt seem so anymore.

AAC is fine. It is about 1 MOA as well. Just cull any bad cases and stock up.

I have had good luck with IMI Razorcore as well.

I agree you should just use 55 grain for 25y and in offhand shooting. The ballistics are no different at that range and accuracy does not matter. Even 4 MOA ammo holds an inch at 25 yards.

Some of the first batches of the 77gr OTM ( Lot #'s ) were hot loaded.

Since then, AAC / PSA has lowered the powder charge weight.

I would be quite comfortable using the current product.

I have shot a lot of AAC ammo in various flavors. I have used their 75 grain stuff very successfully. I want to support them as a company who is bringing the goods. They just came out with .308 now too. How bad ass.

I just got some 77 grain I will be trying out very soon.

I've been shooting the IMI Razorcore stuff lately. Been getting it from Midway. It is consistent sub MOA in my WOA 18" barrel.

I took the rifle and ammo to visit my son in Montana this summer. Steel at 500 yards was no problem.

AAC 77gr SMK is $0.75/rnd and AAC 77gr OTM is $0.55/rnd. Both are MOA-ish loads. Just use one of those and save your BH

I ordered some IMI Razorcore and will order some AAC 77gr SMK to test out at this point. Only way to know, I guess.

There were some blown primers in the first lot of SMK I believe. They have reduced their loads a little since then.

Out of curiosity, what spec chamber do you have?

If you are getting blown primers with multiple different 5.56 loads, you might have a .223 or Wylde chamber causing excess pressure with 5.56 spec ammo.

It's 5.56 NATO but interesting development on this one - I may have a headspace issue with the rifle that these problems were happening in.

I had a quick trip to the range to test out a new optic - 100 rounds of AAC 77gr SMK.

Functioned flawlessly, can't make too many comments about precision because I wasn't shooting very far but it looks promising.

Hoping to do a longer trip and test out some S&B, AAC, IMI that I got to compare to BHA.
