Here is an update from the gent I installed a tube on a couple of weeks ago. Here is what he had to say and pictures to what the results were. "Hey Art, ....................... The pics of the shot groups I hope are clear enough too see. I shot at 100, 200, and 300 meters. After 200 rounds no cleaning, the groups were a lot tighter. This RRA LAR-8 likes the 168 Hornady Amax bullet with 43.5 grains of Varget, Been using various cases from different manufacters. The primers I’ve been using are Federal 210 Large Rifle and OAL is 2.81. I wrote info on the sheets of paper that I attached the targets to, I hope that helps. Two other police officers and friends were witness to the shots fired from my LAR-8. They loved that Rail of yours bro! RRA LAR-8 shoots pretty good for an out of the box “Hog Gun!” "       A lot of you have been asking for a range report on one of the RRA LAR-8 so, What else can I say, pictures are worth a thousand words  Art |

Thanks for the info. I logged on this morning to search/ask for a range report on the LAR-8. The specs cite 1 1/2 moa accuracy and I figured that was the best possible and I would get 2 1/2 on the farm shooting hogs. Anybody else have similar results? |

Besides, what's the complaint about $7 magazines compared to $3 magazines. I mean you spend $1300 or so on a rifle and you can't stand to spend $140 on 20 mags for it? What gives? The FAL mags, metric or inch are very plentiful and CHEAP, even in excellent condition. I bet the AR-10 guys would love to have $7 mags. www.dsarms.com for mags. Granted i've got an HK91 and 50 original mags for it but like the RRA guy says, cheap 91 mags haven't been around all that long. -David Edgewood, NM |

Might, but there would be a nasty gap at the bottom rear of the upper receiver. AR10 has an angle while this one has a radius. I did not check the pin up points/holes. | I'm having great accuracy from mine with 150 SMKs and varget. I haven't gotten around to trying AMAX or Lapuas 155 Scenars, or the 175 SMK yet. I was hoping MOA or a little better and was getting that with the bulk 150 FMJs until I found their sweet load. But the 150 SMKS blew me away! |
I've typically find the listed accuracy is the worst possible as most places typically garuntee that. |

Here is the update out to 500M ..............Here are the 500 meters/547 yards groups I shot with my RRA LAR-8 rifle. The smallest group was under 3 inches at that range. The other group was the norm about 4-5 inches, total groups shot were six 5 shot groups. Once again I used new winchester cases, federal 210 large rifle primers, 168 Nosler Match bullets(308), 43.5 grains of Varget. OAL was 2.81,Both types of FAL magazines were used. Both FAL mags functioned flawlessly. I did shoot 10 rounds of South African 7.62 and those groups were anywhere from 6-11 inches. I chronographed that load with my RRA LAR-8 and the average was about 2475 from a 16 inch barrel. The same load from a 24 inch barrel (FN SPR A1)was 2665. Also, since I had you replace the standard hand guard with one of your SWS free float quad rails, the groups sizes shrank immensely,being a solid platform for my harris swivel bipod. The scope on the rifle is my IOR 2-13, which rocks! Will send you more updates, incliding the 400 meters shot groups, if I can locate them, :). Later Bro    Good shooting Benjamin !!!! |

| I've only had my LAR-8 out on the range once, and I'm sure that the neither rifle nor I were shooting at our best. But despite a bit of wind and an guy next to me who kept banging around on the bench, I was still amazed. I had enough sub-MOA groups to believe this thing is going to be a real performer for a semi-auto. I'll post more--with targets--when I have some results under better controlled conditions. |

| I have the LAR-8 "standard configuration" 20 inch unit. straight up stock. I use it in NRA High Power Semi Auto Military Silhouette. this is shot with iron sights only....I have a RRA A4 Match gun so I took the 1/4 X 1/4 NM rear carry handle off and put it on the LAR...got the RRA front "bolt on" front A frame sight with extra high sight pin. At 300 yds, I get sub MOA (last time I shot that I put 3 shots in 1.75" in the 10 ring). I use 150 Sierra and 150 Hornady Flat Base hunting bullets out to 300 yds and 168 SMKs at 385 and 500 yds. Last time I benched it at 500 yards I shot a 4" 5 shot group...again this is with irons. I've actually been wary of putting this on this forum as there are some that would say it couldn't be done with iron sights, but,,, yeah, it can. Oh, here's a qualifer....You can load individuall rounds in this Silh. discipline...these groups were all loaded indivdiually...Shrps74 |

Love it, another credible testimonial on the merit of RRA LAR8 platform.
Not had the opportunity to shoot mine beyond 100 yrds. Half inch groups with American Eagle 7.62x51 168 grn OTM (red box for M1A use) all day long. 19.99 a box at Cabela's, until I decide to invest in reloading this is the pill it will be fed. Very nice post, hopefully one day I'll get to shoot at some distance with mine. |
| I've been following this thread....waiting to see what the outcome would be...I've had a LAR-8 for over 2 years....standard config. 20" barrel...A4. I put an A frame front sight on the gas block, put my 1/4 x 1/4 inch RRA NM carry handle on it (from my 5.56mm match gun) and use it in long range silhouette competitions...off hand from 200/300/385 and 500m. I've benched it at 500yds and get right at 4 inch (5 shot groups) (cold or hot barrel)....again thats with iron sights...OK go ahead, and flame me, but its very repeatable with this rifle. I use 155gr Nosler Competition bullets at the shorter ranges (out to 385yds/m) and 168 SMKs/Nosler Comp at 500, as the 155s won't consistently knock over a 60lb ram at that distance. In this form, the rifle weighs 9lbs without the sights (est. right at 9 1/2 with sights)...trigger is the RRA match 2 stage.. I've got well over 2000 rounds thru this gun...wouldn't trade it for any other 308 AR. BobG in VA |

I ordered (4) DS Arms 30-rounders for my LAR-8.... tried 2 and neither worked, so I returned all-4 (I found the first-2 failing to be highly distressing, so I spared myself further disappointment and just ruturned all-4 without trying the other 2). I e-mailed DS Arms to ask for return instructions but they never responded. After a few days I called and after being on hold for 30 minutes I talked to Francisco who said they would cover the shipping both ways. However, when I got my refund they didn't refund my shipping or pay for my return shipping. Francisco was nice and helpful, but that company is a cluster-f*ck and very frustrating to deal with. I will never buy from DS Arms again. If you want to buy the DS Arms mags I suggest you buy them from someplace with better customer service (I know Brownells, Midway, and AIMSurplus have or have had them in-stock). I don't think it's willing ill-will on DS Arms part, just total ineptitude. |
