The light is just an incandescent 6P, but it has a Laser Products tape switch tail cap.  The laser works.

What's the best optic for the money?  Vortex Strike Eagle?  Have a 16" Larue stealth barrel and need an optic to finish out the build.  What's the call?

I want either a 1-4 or 1-6.  I'm thinking 1-6 but I don't have nightforce money

The Strike Eagle 1-6 is very difficult to beat.  Maybe the PA 1-8 or even their 1-6 but a lifetime warranty with great glass is usually why Vortex is doing such an incredible job of putting great optics in people's hands.

Larue.  ARMS if you want a more dated look.   But personally I don't see how people get away with them mounted so far back.   I guess there a re quite a few more cantilever mounts nowadays though.  Leupy has one, American Defense.  Giessele has one that you need to take out a loan for.  Although come to think of it, I'm not sure it's any more than a larue.  I forget.

Finally collected all three, built a new recce, feels completely different than the previous build. Don't care for the look of the socom barrel sticking out from the rail though.

I should've said thank you for your response to this earlier.  So, thank you.  I didn't know people could actually get them.  I don't know a lot about these laser systems.  It just looked like the kind that have been used in the military.  I wasn't sure if it was a real deal one or not.

Noveske N4 Gen3 lower with Noveske MUR and URX3.1 13.5" and stainless midlength gas barrel.

Razor HD-LH 2-10x40 with the HSR-4 reticle in a Vortex Viper (Warne) CVP-1 mount.

Has VLTOR 7 position A5 RE and B5 SOPMOD enhancd.

Will be taking it out shooting soon so I can see how well it groups at 200-300.

I think you win in the budget/capability award with that one. Nice. Looks like you spent money where it mattered and got good deals. Let us know how it does.

I owe it to the ARFCOM deal threads for pointing me in the right direction. Also the Larue sale didn't hurt

After over a year of piecing this together and struggling over which direction to go I finally finished this build today. I'd just like to thank secretwheelman for giving me the opportunity by selling me the MRE and pushing me to do it right The Short Dot is an incredible optic that surprised me how versatile it is. While it is a heavy pig, I truly think this config embodies the Recce theme and makes for a rifle that can do a lot of different things, and do them well. If you want an Elcan, stop, get the Short Dot instead. Eventually it will get a PEQ-2 when I get into NV.

uuuuugh.... hands down THE best recce ever in my book.

but... the larue LT mount just feels too new compared to everything else. needs some arms rings or something more old school.

I just got it, and haven't had a chance to take it out yet.  As far as "feel", it just feels natural.  The handguard is very slim in profile, and very comfortable in the hand.

The Comp M2 is only temporary as I haven't decided what optic to go with yet.

Getting there, dropped it Friday morning and screwed up a ring so a new one is on the way.    Should be all set by Thursday
