Just finished my proto build. Pieced together from Brownell’s. Many thanks to Braceman for the proto FSB and John Thomas for the pinning.

Furniture was done in Kona brown with   Cinnamon and Khaki (Rustoleum) sponged on in a random pattern and Kona again, steel wooled and then sprayed gloss.

The rear sight, port door, bolt stop, safety etc. we’re soaked in prep and etch to remove the black finish then parked.

Still have some details to finish but I’m very happy with it.

Thank you took a while to get the parts with everything being out of stock. Should have jumped on the Proto blems Brownells had about a year ago but I love building these things.

Drop dead gorgeous OP.  She's like a beautiful women, definitely a 10+. I wish there was a sticky dedicated strictly to prototype builds, or anything prototype.  Right now they're all over the place.  A lot of them in the archives including mine.

Very nice OP.

JT and Brace are awesome.

JT helped with my "PIP" 605 project.

That turned out awesome - the paint job on the furniture looks great.

Looks really good. Now all you need is small parts to really bring it home.

Looks great! I just finished my FauxTo build, made entirely of clearances/blems parts and bits and bobs I had laying about the shop.

That is damn sharp looking, dude.  Hope mine comes out anywhere near that good.

Great rifle!

That furniture turned out really nice. You have definitely inspired me to do something with my BRN Proto; it just doesn't look quite right.

Looks great! Not surprising considering who helped you with it. Those guys are top shelf. What I focused on? The mag button. Made my snout wet. Where'd you get it?

Thanks everyone

The mag button is a standard one that I ground the serrations off of, then cut the new serrations with a 20 LPI checkering file. Finished with a light coat of aluminum black.

Still looking for a no tick safety. I wanted to dimple the pins and lower parts but don’t have a lathe. I tried using a drill press and ruined a practice part.   I didn’t want to trash what I had on hand. If anyone knows where to find dimpled pins let me know.

Not sure if Heatnbeat is still making dimpled pins But I'd check with him.

AR15Sport has a pile of 601 type parts like the dimpled pins. Things come and go from stock but he's pretty responsive to emails; worth a shot to check if he has any sitting around if they don't show on the site.

I got my 601 mag release button, dimpled rear takedown pin, and bolt catch from him. He has grey no-tick safeties as well.

JT has done a couple of builds for me. Couldn't recommend him more, he's an artist.

Your rifle is absolutely gorgeous.

That guy can dimple and reparkerize anything! If you have and older selector with the thin tic send it to him. I will put up some pics today.

JT did the selector, pins and mag catch. Sent him my parts. He might have some for sale as well.
OP - this type of selector looks best (to me) for dimples vs what you have. Check your other ARs, you might have one already. That is how I got mine.

Your proto looks awesome btw!

JT milled off the upper "steps" of a selector for mine.  He also welded it up and recut it so that the function matches the markings.

His prototypes are the most true-to-form of anybody’s prototypes that I have seen. Amazing stuff. Hopefully I can get on his level for my rifles, when I get around to them.
