Personally, one of the challenges I find when trying to build an XM177 retro, is finding original photographs of the rifle to help base my build on.  Recently I was Googling some Vietnam era photos and I ran across a very good photo of an XM177E1.  For those who ar interested, the photo can be found at https://images.app.goo.gl/uUDi7MvF1EnrZzWe9

12 Oct 1967, Khe Sanh, South Vietnam --- New Rifle. SP/4 Rodney W. Henning, of Chippewa Falls, Wisc., a rifleman in the 1st Cavalry Division here, holds the latest Army weapon,
the XM-177E2, an improvement over the much criticized M-16. It weights about 6 pounds, 1 1/2 pounds less than the standard rifle, and can fire as rapidly as a submachine gun.

Notice how the stock is anodized grey and not coated in shiny nylon.

I've got to build an E1 like that soon.

Specialist Henning's name does not appear on The Wall, so evidently he made it.  Welcome home, Rodney.

Looks like all of the Colt rollmarks have been milled away.

It looks like one of the airsoft or dummy M16 rifles that had Colt markings.  Colt sued, and the markings had to be milled off.

Why do people feel obligated to flip up AK sights like a 1903?  That is some strong fucktardness

The XM177E2 is a Marushin cap firing toy gun made in Japan since 1980. For a toy it is quite realistic.
