Indeed! Have you heard/seen any updates on batch 3? I'm thinking about getting in on the 5th run for another 2, another GM and a H&R. These lowers are a few of the post election accelerated purchases I've made. What LPK, specifically safety are you going with for your lower?  I've been debating on cracking open a NOS colt LPK i have from 4 or 5 years ago (i think the lpk's are dated around 2008) to build it out, but I'm curious on what the historically correct safety is for the GM A1 lower era.

I have a mid 2000s colt (non-ambi) I have set aside.  I’m not sure what the GM A1 had when produced during Vietnam but prob Colt non-ambi or similar from a subbed manufacturer.  The pics I’ve seen of a fresh issued Mod 0 Gen 3 (what I’m currently cloning) had a non-ambi Colt.  Though it looks like some folks swapped with ambi as they so desired.

Edit note: I haven’t heard any updates on batch 3, just that it’s still on track.

I want to temper expectations from the start. I am 100% committed to making this happen, but a couple things to remember: this is a small order of an essentially custom part. It will take several weeks, perhaps even a few months to see this through. This is also not my day job, so while I do have a relatively good chunk of ongoing free time to commit to this, it is not a full time operation. Additionally, the amount of people working on this is very small, so please keep that in mind. There's only so much we can get to in a day. Lastly and most importantly, at least until the parts are back from machining, I WILL NOT ACCEPT MONEY FROM ANYONE, so please don't offer to send it. Because this is a relatively small run, only a few scrapped parts in manufacturing can dramatically change the cost of producing this. I'll be taking on the financial load up front because I've seen group orders like this go sideways before and I don't want to be responsible for losing any money but my own.

I will be working hard to make sure this comes to fruition, but I can't guarantee anything until I have parts in hand so please be patient with me.

///// END DISCLAIMER \\\\

Alright on to the show. Here's an abbreviated the state of the project as of 01/28/2021. Please try and reserve your questions and I'll try to do a periodic follow up as this thing grows.

- As @USMCSGT0331 pointed out, yes, I will be receiving his original soon to start pulling dimensions. I have an engineer lined up who will be working with me to get a proper CAD model created. This is step one. If anyone else out there is willing to share theirs as well, it'll help with tolerancing but it isn't strictly necessary.

- I am working on getting quoted from a machine shop where I have a connection, but it's going to be hard to firm up anything until we have the CAD model created.

- From the best I can tell in the pictures, it's probably type I or type II anodized. I spoke with two different plating shops today that can do both. Once I've got the original, I'll run it by them to see what they think and then we can try and lock in the price. This is like step 7.

- I addressed this concern briefly in another post, but to allay an fears about folks trying to pass these off as originals in the future, a distinguishing mark, both inconspicuous and also difficult to remove will be added. This is a no-compromise feature. Accuracy in replication matters, so it won't be anything outwardly visible, but since this is part of the still nebulous machining process, I'm not going to say any more on that until that I'm able to provide concrete answers. Know that this is a priority though.

- Regarding engraved part numbers, I still don't have a clear picture on how prolific they are on actual issued bore guides, or if that number is even consistent. They may have been used early on and dropped later but I have no idea. I haven't seen any firm explanation on them so if anyone does, please share. I am looking in to incorporating that element into the design, but again, nothing set in stone. IF this gets added, THEN I'll worry about seeing who wants what. Please don't bog me down with engraving requests.

- I already have a list of usernames and rough quantities captured from the thread and PMs. If you've already posted a response or PM'd me, I have you written down.

- I can't commit to any firm numbers right now on how big the order size will be, but I'm eyeing approximately 50 to start. However that may be subject to change. If all goes well and there's still demand, I will do subsequent runs. I just can't afford to spin up 100-150 of these things off the start and only wind up getting rid of 30.

- I also have no firm window on pricing. I will definitely be north of $30, but I really have NO WAY of telling at this point in the game. When there's a price to share, I will share it, so please hold off on that question for now, but I want to make this as reasonably priced as I can.

- As for ordering, again, really don't have much in place right now. This is a later-stage process. My focus is on getting it made right now and I'll shift to this later on.

In conclusion, y'all are fucking weirdos and I love it. Please never change. I'll continue to trickle updates as I have things worth updating.

SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION :
Still on the hunt for an issued Mod 1 case, so if you got one, let me know.

EDIT I : If you're in the DFW area and interested in helping, many hands make light work. If you're in the area and are able to offer assistance, please feel free to PM me.

I don't know who the great horned rat is, but thanks for posting. It reminded me it had been a while since I searched for a long collar. Luckily ADCO showed 7 in stock.

Didn't realize the one I got with the brake was a short collar until I compared my pile of Holland parts to my Mod 1.

LOL, apologies.  I've been reading too many Warhammer Fantasy novels lately.  Thanks for the link to Adco as I still need one more long collar.  The brake I got from PRI came with a short, but the brake I got from DSG came with a long (one I posted a pic of).  So I am short one long (does that even make sense?).  Adco still has 6 in stock so gonna grab one.

Thanks!

I dont know a whole lot of the issued ones besides Pat Pend engraved on the early ones (and solid latches)

Also the welded latch. If I got all my ducks in a row here, the ones with the welded skeletonized latch were seen on late 0's. @Hunterex, do I have that down correctly?

ETA: There's also "pri-mounts" vs (current) "precisionreflex", along with the slight differences in lettering. I have no idea if the "pri-mounts" was used without the welded latch, or the laser etched(?) version for that matter

You have it right.  SPR is pat. pending welded latch without cutout. NP3 coated. Early Gen III Mod 0s and Mod 1s have the engraved PRi-Mounts welded latch with window.  In 2004 welded latches gave way to the current style, but still parkerized. Same markings (pri-mounts, etc) on the handle but lasered.  Roll pins and no codes.  This type was used until the very end of the Mk12s.

Kmcale, Hunterx,  many thanks for the concise information. Just another piece of the puzzle to find, the last for the upper, which I suppose would be a late Model 0, lower needs work still but as always a work in progress.
Well I did check and the one I've had is the pri-mount one from the center, I suppose it could be worse.

I'm attempting to reach out to those with input in regards to the Mk12 Mod 1 and nightvision compatible optics as I'll soon be ordering a PVS30.

I've been researching and as for Mk12 clones the nv compatible optic is the NF NXS 2.5-10X24.  Has anyone out there figured out other nv compatible scope options without running out of rail space?

Not sure about the 30 but I can mount a pvs27 with the big NF, there is no rail to spare though.

It's got enough salt and while it needs a bit more purple I'm totally fine with it 🙂

This salty upper and forearm will be moving to the mod 0 to get it as kosher as I can and then use what's left over to start a mod H.

I’m having trouble tightening my break. I have tried using an adjustable crescent wrench like the instructions call for but can’t get it to grip enough to wrench it down.

I used just enough shims to get it to where it needs to be turned about 10-15 more degrees to allow for enough torque.

Any help will be great!

Edit: Here is the orientation I’m using

Would this work or will it damage the webs?

I ran into the same thing didn’t like the idea of parallel flats on a tapered cut.  I’m making a custom wrench that’s 11/16 wide and has the taper cut into it.
Not sure how far off vertical to time them.

All I've ever used was an adjustable crescent wrench. Have the solid end be the part of the wrench that makes contact with the brake. Otherwise I've heard of people using a stout piece of wood dowel through the webs, havent tried that myself, but.. an idea
It's been a bit since I've adjusted my brake, so I dont remember 100%, but i think I have it so the larger part of the brake is at the open end of the wrench

Third photo is how I thought it was talking about turning it in the instructions. That’s also how I have out one on a M4 barrel so far. Anything put through the opening could cause it to expand and deform. I’m just not a fan of how it does not contact both webs of the brake so I’m cutting my own tool but lots and lots here have done it just like that I’m sure. I just like making random tools to stay sharp at it.

It’s just a slab of steel going at it with some files and a drill press and “borrowing” some weld wire from work. Nothing too fancy but should get the job done. No sexy CAD model or milling machines yet.

Thank you, it's by far my favorite lower. The plate area on the roll marks are all original.

For what it's worth I noticed PRI has the 18" Bergara barrels on sale. FDE, while not clone correct is only $225. Pretty smoking deal, I'm just crossing my fingers that they mark down the 16" version.

Are they known to work well with the AEM5? I've got an extra collar set or two laying around here...

Yep.  Built a Mod H with a FDE barrel and wanted another rifle to use the AEM5 so I bought another in black and swapped out the barrel on this Larue UU kit rifle.
