Afternoon Gents, sorry if this has already been asked, I know the SSF trigger GTG for URGIs, but have any other Geissele triggers been approved/seen in the wild? I am partial to the SD-E Geissele trigger and would like to run that instead.

If not, I can live with it not being 100% correct cause the lower receiver ain't correct either, but I thought I should ask.

The SSF is the only select fire trigger they make (aside from the SSF-X used in the Noveske DEVGRU rifles), so that's basically the only option you'll see

There were some people who wanted to discuss non-URGI topics and things got deleted. Now when the thread hits a new page, it takes a few posts for it to actually shift over to the new page.

It's a great URGI thread. I'm up in the air about getting another URGI or grabbing an SPR.

Next upper will be a URGI inspired SPR using a MK16 G rail and the G 18" SPR barrel.  Doesn't fit either clone thread, but I feel its where a SPR would be today if the concept was new and warranted.

We used to have SSA triggers available for the Mk11 and Mk12s back in 2014 but SOCOM stopped buying them.  Only triggers I get for URGIs are SSF or stock USGI auto.

Because the SPR was a specific rifle issued during a specific time frame during specific events.  Yes, you can build a rifle for the same task with today's components but it's not a SPR.  While the URGI is a free floated rail, it doesn't use a match barrel.  URGI will have acceptable accuracy but not exceptional accuracy.  You have to remember that the SPR was designed as a semi auto sniper rifle as we didn't have enough 7.62 semi auto sniper rifles then.  Many of us snipers dislike the M24 and wanted our M21s back and not enough SR25s available.  Steve Holland and I discussed this numerous times in the 90s before we worked on the SPR.

Thanks for the input! I may try out the SSA, but I really prefer the SDE so I may just say screw it and be slightly off on the clone. Appreciate it.

Interesting that they bought into SSA-E triggers, I would have thought that would have been the move.

SSA not SSA-E.  Again they were for semi Mk11/12s.  SSA is just the semi verison of the auto SSF.

Sorry that was a mis-type. I meant to say. I wonder why they didn’t go the route of SSA-E triggers but if the SSA is the semi auto version of the SSF then that makes sense why they would stick to it

If anyone is struggling to figure out what to do with their 14.5” and haven’t tried the LPVO/dot combo I really think you should. Got this upper in like 2020 and ran it on patrol for like a year before I finished my MK18. Found myself constantly changing optics but it just kinda didn’t do it for me. Used it as a loaner for a bunch of rifle classes and used it to let the students fire full auto to save the barrel on their uppers and my MK18. Didnt care about it.

Finally after like 3 years of accumulation of parts I slapped a Badger,  the Razor 1-10 on it + the Acro and my first reaction before I shot it was that I wasted a lot of money.

But once I ran a bore snake down it and zeroed it in expecting a mess… the thing stacked the rounds at the 50 like it did the day I first got it 5 years ago.

I really do think this is the way to set these guns up. I know everyone has an opinion but I say it from professional experience and extensive use. It was tortured for a few years and it has never had one single malfunction. Every student who shot the rifle operator course with this upper (from zero experience) were the first one’s zeroed and had no issues. The reliability has been perfect and no broken parts.

It took less getting used to use the Acro on top of the Badger than it took for me to adjust to an Eotech Unity Riser.

This is my second time out shooting 200 yards probably in like 6 years (we’re all ways 100 and in) and my second time using this package.

Figured i’d keep the thread alive a bit. Im just very impressed and I find myself never fully satisfied with setups. Ive had every other optic combo you can think of on this and I think this is it. Rock solid platform, reliable, insanely accurate, and balanced incredibly well size and weight wise combined with the LPVO.

Couple groups with different ammo (64,68,69,77) at 200 in pics below. Didnt label them. Honorable mention to the colt barrel in the MK18 For shooting a group like that at 200 yards. I was almost certain id be shopping for a barrel for both guns soon but guess not.

You can tell in that part of the video when John is talking about what he doesnt like about the Geissele issued uppers (his experience) that GT was staring at him like "god damnit you're ruining the video with your negative talk".  So he goes "Yeah, well those early uppers werent all geissele parts and had DD barrels...." to save the puff piece.

Rumors, but no pics have ever surfaced. However, COTS Super Duty uppers have been seen in the wild.

Garand Thumb cringe aside, I own both a 14.5 and 11.5 near clone upper and they're pretty good. More than enough for 99% of civilian shooters.
