If you search reddit for "my AR9 wont work right when using an FRT" , the common denominator is the FM9 bcg. Try a different bcg, it may work it or may not but its a well known issue at this point.

I would be looking for hammer drag on the regulator. If the pocket in the upper isn't perfect it can cause the hammer to bump the regulator. It may be happening right as the carrier slams home and only affecting it in FRT mode.

If that's the case you can probably fix it by shaving ten to twenty thousandths off the top of the hammer.

Installed in the exact same rifle that the 2 position dropped into and worked like a champ...

installed ALL of the 3 position parts straight out of the package...will not work for more than a few rounds without hammer follow and malfunctions. Trigger pull is terrible, hard, gritty, creepy. I previously asked JD in another thread and of course he said I must not have installed all his parts....

I'm having the exact same problem in a 556 with mil spec bolt carrier.

I will swap out the disconnector but it makes me wonder if the regulator has failed.    Mine also seems "looser" than when I first installed it.

By all things I am seeing. If they aren’t TIGHT they will move. If they move at all they will get sloppy. Surfaces wear down with movement. Lube the thing entirely to help reduce a bit. But any movement will cause wear.

I heavily lubed the regulator - however I have a bunch of AR projects and I realized I did switch from one lower to another in the process, and I have an out of spec disconnector.  It's noticeably shorter than the one included (like 1-1.5mm shorter) with the Regulator, and the edge likely rounded off during my initial mag dumps accounting for the loss of function.

I'll have to retest and confirm but in my case it looks to be a case of User Error.

Yep...

Still, it's reassuring hearing it from someone in the industry with his level of experience.

Both of my 3P setups are dedicated, only time the module will come out is for cleaning...

I spent a little time on my range this AM. Both my 9mm and 5.56 3P setups functioned flawlessly. The trigger on my 5.56 seems to be smoothing out a bit as well, still not great but within "mil spec" standards and very much shootable.

Inspected both FRT modules after the 2-3 hundred rds fired today on each. No concerning ware on either, just a little shinny developing on the interface surfaces.

Nice to see that strictly from a legal perspective they are pretty good.

What has been the best lower/upper setup for those that own the 3-pos version that will simply drop in and work?

I think all of us who have personally examined it understand the basic function and how it could cause hammer follow, we just wanted someone with some legal experience to take a look at how the law is applied.

Wondering if the G version works with a SD-E? From reading around it seems it was intended for the SSA and can be hit or miss on other G triggers.

It seems like maybe the MBT version might be a safer bet.

SSA works without the disconnector and/or disconnector spring installed for the "AZR015M2-R" model.

Is the original AZR15 capable of working with a disco on an SSA? Unsure.

The original AZR15 worked on my SSA and SSA-E. There has been some discussion that only early model SSA-Es work. I can't speak to that- only that mine have functioned flawlessly.

Where did you get that idea?

Install the provided parts, and install an H3 buffer in a mil spec lower. In most cases, you're done. To guarantee no need to fit, use the Larue MBT 2 stage version because mil spec triggers can have some variance in them.

If you can change the oil in your car, you can do this.

At this point, it's pretty well documented that this is the exception as ALL SSAs from the past decade are incompatible without modification.

Well the verdict is in for me. AZR's are the truth! Just back from the first test of the 3 pos and it ran like a raped ape just like the 2 pos I have from them.

The rig I was using was my Centurion Arms 11.5 FBI. Since I had already had an original AZR in it that was slightly trimmed to use with a HiperFire EDTHG I just decided to trim the leg like the 3 pos. Took my time and trimmed long then did some finish work to bring it to the final length with the new AZR supplied trigger set up.

Is the AZR supplied 3 pos trigger award winning for smoothness and break/reset? Far from it but certainly by no means should anyone be bitching for what you get with this set up.

My opinion is JD did a damn fine job with getting this set up out there for everyone. If you are the type of person that doesn't mind tinkering and trying a few things out it can only get more refined. I have eyes on a few things that I intend to try out over the next few weeks and look forward to sharing the ins and outs.

The 3 position unit is only designed to work with his included trigger. The Larue MBT disconnector sits far higher than a mil spec one, and will not work with his 3 position "Regulator" unit, the piece that sits between the upper and lower receivers.

I was wondering about this same question.  I am going to wait and see what else is on the market in the next few months before I buy.
JD's website is misleading concerning the LaRue MBT drop in unit.  From what I understand it was never clear if it worked with the 3 position selector.  Now I know it does not work.
Thanks for the updated information.

These are amazing.  Easy install, worked 100% out of the box in both guns I installed them on.  I did find one upper that the upper receiver had an out-of-spec autosear pocket, but was able to file to open it.

I got the M2 and the A1 (3-pos).  Both worked awesomely, and the trigger on the 3-pos is very fine, better than most mil-spec triggers.  I plan to buy more of the 3-pos, although being able to move the 2-pos M2 between guns is a great feature.

This seems like a very well made, well designed product that works as-advertised.  I'm very happy and will be buying one for all but two of my ARs that have G triggers and that don't do rapid fire.

Being able to make effortless controlled pairs is incredible.  Short bursts are super fun.  I had to order two cases of 5.56 today.  My wife is going to be so mad.

Took my A1 (3-position) system out for the first time today.

The good news: dropped in and the worked perfectly (FRT).  A real head turner at the range.
The bad news: it worked perfectly (FRT) in both the "Fire" position and the "FRT" position.  There was no difference between the two positions.

Not that it mattered all that much; I was happy with ripping rounds FRT, but I might yank the 3-pos safety out and just go with the "regulator" by itself, since it didn't seem to be limited by the safety.

The AZR 3P is forced reset in both modes so it makes sense that it brrrts in semi IF the disconnector is not functioning as it should be.

Have you hand functioned checked the disco? verify the disco spring is installed correctly?

Disco spring installed correctly, and the system was function checked after I installed it--before I put the upper on, and again after.

Any help here
I've got a 5.7 banshee I recently sbr'd. Before the sbr I put a SB tactical pdw brace on it with an H2 buffer and it ran fine with a RB FRT. I've since put the honey badger stock on it and can't get it to run with the rare breed, daorly defense or the delta team tactical. I've tried the 9mm buffer and still a no go.

I decide to order the Arizona regulator 3 position and try it out to see if that'd get it to run. Well when I put the 9mm buffer in I can get small bursts but I have to pull the trigger every so lightly. Buffer spring need to be stiffer? Any ideas. I really want to get this to work. My daughter's loved shooting it before I changed up the stock.

When you do the hand function for 2P holding the trigger back, it does release from the disco to trigger sear when you release the trigger right? If yes, forced reset happens first during fire, maybe the bolt is traveling enough to force the reset but not far enough to engage the disco.

Pretty sure that spikes buffer is filled with tungsten powder, am I correct? If so, it's not ideal for brrrt...sliding tungsten weights are best. Still, it's brrrting so that's not likely the failure to hit the disco reason...

Problem solved!

Cause: too many regulators, and not enough attention to detail.

I pulled the AR9 down, and took a close look at the regulator.  "Hmm...that leg doesn't seem right."  Rummage through my range bag and grab the other regulator.  "Ah ha!"

The "2-pos" regulator on the left, "3-pos" on the right.  I had the 2-pos regulator installed in error, and it was doing it's job just as it was supposed to.  Popped the 3-pos back in, and now I need some more range time.

It shouldn't do that. It should work regardless of how much pressure you put on the trigger. Check to see if it's installed correctly.

Appreciate the help guys. I posted up further on this page. It's a 5.7 banshee. Mega upper and lower. It's an SBR so I have the Q shorty stock.
The guy ran fine with a RB trigger when it was a pistol with an SB tactical PDW brace and an H2 buffer.

Once I SBRd it and put the q shorty on it went to hell. Couldn't get the RB, Dairyland defense, or delta team to work. I've tried the heavy 9mm buffer from q it's like 8oz I think. But it's longer than the H1 the stock comes with. I tried adding weight to the H1 with molten lead inside. No go, all the way around.

I purchased the Arizona regulator just to see if it'd go. It's the three position. With the heavy 9mm buffer it'll burst off 5-6, but you have to finess the trigger. Like barely pull it. It always fails with a round in the chamber and a dead trigger.

I've read you can lock the bolt up with FRTs, pulling too hard. Not sure if the Arizona regulator is the same. But I by no means am pulling it too hard.

That's about all I got, my thoughts were maybe I need a heavier buffer spring, maybe the H1 is too light, and the 9mm buffer is too heavy and I need an in between, unfortunately Q doesn't offer one.

Thanks again for any help. It's a blast to shoot 5.7 forced reset, my daughter's love it. Suppressed , and zero recoil.
